Gaslighting: The Shocking Reason Why People Decide To Stay In Abusive Relationships

What comes to mind when you hear the words "abusive relationship"?

You might picture some Lifetime Original about physical violence but in reality, most abuse that happens in relationships isn't physical abuse.

It's actually a type of mental abuse.

Mental abuse isn't necessary more destructive than physical abuse, but it can be just as damaging to a person's psyche is any other kind of abuse.

Mental, or emotional abuse, is often hard to spot.

Knowing when to leave someone who's physically abusive can be clear as day.

But knowing when to leave an emotional abuser is often quite a bit more subtle.

An emotional abuser will engage in what is known as "gaslighting."

Gaslighting is when an abusive person manipulates you into believing in a reality that simply does not exist.

There are a variety of ways that an abuser will do this to you. Knowing the signs is important, whether or not you're currently in an abusive relationship.

Gaslighting comes in a lot of different forms and can be devastating in friendships, in the workplace - even online.

It's important to know the signs of gaslighting.

Be sure to share this with people you love so they can know how to avoid it too.

Let's kick the gaslighters out of our lives for good!

It is almost impossible to know when you’re being gaslighted.

This is one of the greatest challenges with breaking free from this kind of abusive relationship.

Whether you're a man or a woman, it is a serious challenge to know whether or not you're falling prey to this type of abuse.

This is what makes gaslighting such a dangerous type of abuse.

You start questioning your own memory and knowledge of the world around you, if reality as it is.

Things that aren't your fault you suddenly start believing are.

You start believing everything your abuser tells you.

It is the ultimate method of control and it's pretty much impossible to break out of it.

Truly a terrifying method of control. It slowly destroys your self esteem.

Any time you stand up for yourself, your abuser tells you that you're just overthinking it or overreacting to nothing.

If others in your life try to help you see clearly, who will you believe?

This is what makes gaslighting so hard to spot.

Love makes you stupid. See past it.

It's probably not a popular opinion, but it's true. Love makes you stupid.

It makes you put up with things, with behaviors, you never normally would.

Abuses and neglect that you would reject in family and friends becomes acceptable when you're in love.

But you need to be able to see past it, to remove yourself from it.

When you can start to see critically the world in which you live and honor the true emotions you're experiencing, abusers, gaslighters, are easier to spot.

The path ahead isn't always a clear one but it is present if you're willing to do what you need to do in order to see it, sometimes clear it, and follow it.

Gaslighters want to blind you with love. It's why they're often hot and cold.

Mean to you sometimes, great to you other times.

They want you to remember the good times so they can continue doing the sick work that they do.

See the cyclical patterns of abuse.

When you've managed to move past some more base emotions you have about your abusive partner, you'll start to notice patterns in their abuse.

When your abusive partner sees that you've wised up and plan to leave, they'll take up as they used to, being loving and kind and caring.

They try to lure you back into giving a relationship another chance. I mean, you love them, right?

You want to give them chances to be better.

And once again, it's easy to fall back into patterns of allowing yourself to be gaslighted.

But stand strong.

See the patterns of abuse as they happen.

Calculate Your Birth Number And Discover What It Reveals About You

Birth numbers are great for learning more about who you are and gaining a bit of insight into how you operate in the world around you.

So what exactly is a birth number? A birth number is calculated by the month, day and year you were born.

Each birth number is tied to our natural abilities and what challenges we are likely to face!

To decipher your birth number, use this simple technique!

Add all the numbers in your birth date, then add those individual numbers, then add the two digit number that remains.

So for example: March 19, 1950

3 + 19 + 1950 = 1972

1 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 19

1 + 9 = 10

1 + 0 = 1

Note: If you end up with 10 at the end, strike the 0. Your number is one.

Now that you have your birth number, find out what it reveals about you:

If you got birth number one, you're a creative type who prefers to have things done your way.

You're incredibly honest with people and often fulfill the role of leader or boss in a work setting.

You can be stubborn and arrogant at times, so it's best for you to remember that other people are capable of being just as great as you are.

The originators are original people who naturally execute new ideas without difficulty.

They have a tendency to be a little bit arrogant though. They're honest, but have trouble accepting the ideas of others.

Famous 1′s: Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Hulk Hogan, Carol Burnett, Wynona Judd, Nancy Reagan, Raquel Welch.

If you got birth number two, you're the natural-born diplomat who typically puts others' needs before your own.

They prefer to be surrounded by friends and companions, but would rather be alone instead of enduring a relationship that they're not fond of.

As somewhat shy folks, peacemakers need to learn how to be comfortable when expressing their views and opinions, and how not to procrastinate.

They're keenly aware of what others need and often think of others before themselves. They dislike being alone.

They strongly value friendship. They can be shy but should learn to boost their self-esteem by finding validation from within.

Famous 2′s: President Bill Clinton, Madonna, Whoopee Goldberg, Thomas Edison, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Number three's are the charismatic, social, romantic, charming, carefree of the bunch.

They are usually quite popular because of how much they help others to achieve happiness.

Their downfall is that they often start things and do not finish them, so it's good for them to learn how to approach things from a more realistic standpoint.

These folks are creative, social, charming and easy going. They often have trouble seeing projects through to the end.

They like to see other people happy and will do what they can to make it a reality.

They tend to be popular. But they tend to view the world through an unrealistic lens.

Famous 3′s: Alan Alder, Ann Landers, Bill Cosby, Melanie Griffith, Karen Round butt, Salvador Dali, Jodi Foster

As a four, you're someone who prefers the rigidity of order and ritual. You only fully participate when your goals and objectives are clearly outlined, but you love working hard.

You feel most at home outside in nature. Your lesson to learn is how to be flexible, and how to not be so hard on yourself.

The conservatives love tradition, tend to be routine, and enjoy order. They like working hard and getting their hands dirty.

They enjoy the outdoors and nature. They have a tendency to be stubborn and should learn to be more flexible and nicer to themselves.

Famous 4′s: Neil Diamond, Margaret Thatcher, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tina Turner, Paul Hogan, Oprah Winfrey

Fives, you're the rebels of the group. Your naturally curious demeanor has you taking risks and your charming enthusiasm sees you coming out on top.

You hate monotony and stagnation and prefer to be learning whenever you can.

You'd do well to halt any assumptions you have in life before obtaining all of the necessary information to make a well-informed decision.

The nonconformists are explorers. They dance to their own tune, but tend to ostracize others.

They have trouble dealing with 'the man' and in many ways would rather be left alone.

#5s should remember the value in being able to work with others.

Famous 5′s: Abraham Lincoln, Charlotte Bronte, Jessica Walter, Vincent VanGogh, Bette Midler, Helen Keller and Mark Hail.

Sixes thrive when they feel like people need them.

They enjoy having strong familial ties and often go out of their way to make sure others are taken care of properly.

They enjoy creative hobbies like art and music, and make some of the best friends because of their loyalty.

The Romantic needs to learn the difference between situations that they can change, and ones they cannot.

Romantics feel like they need to be useful and happy at all times.

Family is important to them and they have a strong urge to take care of others. They're loyal and make excellent teachers.

They need to remember to focus on what they can change, not what they can't.

Famous 6′s: Albert Einstein, Jane Seymour, John Denver, Merlyn Steep, Christopher Columbus, Goldie Hawn

Sevens, you guys are the skeptics of the group. You always see the bigger picture that often eludes most others because emotion never clouds your thoughts.

You question everything in life, which lends to your intellectual and knowledgeable demeanor. You make the best researchers.

Because you like to live in your own world, it would serve you well to learn a bit more about what's acceptable in the real world.

The intellectuals are the searchers of hidden information.

When they uncover something new, all they want to do is share with the world. They're unswayed by their emotions.

Decisions come from logical conclusions for them. They tend to believe that slow and steady wins the race. They tend to be very philosophical.

They tend to keep secrets, but should take care to realize that not everyone is as passionate about their scholastic interests.

Famous 7′s: William Shakespeare, Lucille Ball, Michael Jackson, Joan Baez, Princess Diana

Eights, you guys are the ones who know how to get stuff done.

Professional, assertive and quick to make good decisions, you take charge to ensure your grandiose plans are accomplished.

Sometimes, your objectivity keeps you from making the best decisions for yourself, so focus on improving your own life before others (when you need to).

8′s are the problem solvers. They tend to be professionals and hold their accomplishments in high regard.

They take pride in their work, but should be careful not to become power hungry.

Famous 8′s: Edgar Cayce, Barbara Streisand, George Harrison, Jane Fonda, Pablo Picasso, Aretha Franklin, Nostradamus

As natural-born entertainers, nines tend to be incredibly charming, caring and generous beings.

There are no strangers in this world, only friends you haven't met yet.

You seamlessly move from group to group, using your chameleon-like personality to blend into any social setting perfectly.

To find success in life, do your best to build a foundation of love upon which to set off and explore the world.

They tend to be generous and caring, often giving away the last of their money to help others.

They're charming and rarely does a stranger remain that way for long.

They change often and blend in. They enjoy having a loving foundation, but should learn greater independence.

Famous 9′s: Albert Schweitzer, Shirley MacLaine, Harrison Ford, Jimmy Carter, Elvis Presley

Discover The Inner-You With This Psychological Test

When you stop and consider it, the human mind is a pretty incredible thing.

The brain is so curious that it invents ways to understand itself better. Really kind of wild when you break it down like that, isn't it?

One of the ways we understand ourselves better is through psychological testing.

Despite what you might think, testing your psychology to understand yourself isn't just for mentally unstable people.

Anyone can do it. One of the popular ways is through simple hypothetical tests.

This test that we're about to do, called a "psycho-dynamic" test, is a few decades old now.

It's a tried and true way to reveal your inner feelings about your fears, likes, loves, and desires. We recommend grabbing a pen and a piece of paper and writing down what you see in your mind's eye and what your answers are.

At the bottom of the article, we'll discuss what each of your answers indicates about you.

From there, you can do with that information whatever you like.

We encourage you to keep an open mind, an open heart, and be willing to hear what the results have to say, but don't over-analyze it or anything.

And if you think you have a friend or loved one who might like to take the test, be sure to share!

The Forest

Picture yourself walking down a forest path.

Close your eyes and visualize the scenario if you think it'll help you. Once you've got a good image of your forest, there are three questions that need to be answered:

Question 1: Are the trees organized in a pattern or are they randomly placed?

Question 2: Is it daytime or nighttime?

Question 3: Is the path wide or narrow? Is it well-traveled or rugged?

Be sure you're writing down your answers so you don't forget! You can even jot down a quick description of your forest to keep it fresh in your mind.

The Key

As you walk down your path, getting deeper into the woods, you spot a key lying on the ground by itself.

There are a few questions about this key you need to answer.

Question 4: What does the key look like? Is it a new key or an old key? Is it shiny or dull? Is it large or small? What does it look like it unlocks?

Question 5: Will you pick the key up or leave it in its current place?

The Bear

Once you've either picked up or passed the key, you continue along down your trail and you come upon a bear.

When you see the bear, freeze that moment in your mind so we can analyze it.

There are two questions you need to answer about the bear:

Question 6: Is the bear friendly or does it seem aggressive and intimidating? Are you afraid?

Question 7: Is it a small bear or a large bear?

The Urn

Unfreeze this moment in your mind.

The bear lumbers along through the woods and away from you. Thank goodness!

You continue along the path and suddenly come upon an urn sitting right in the middle of the path. There are two questions you need to answer about this urn:

Question 8: What does the urn look like? What is it made of?

Question 9: Is there anything inside the urn? If so, what's in it?

The House

Leaving the urn where it is, you continue along this path for a bit and come upon a house, where the path finally dead ends.

There are two questions about this house that you'll need to answer.

Question 10: Is the house small or large? What kind of house is it?

Inside the house, you hear a man yelling, screaming, raving, and throwing a fit.

He sounds kind of unstable and scary. He sees you outside and demands that you unlock the door to let him out.

He's pleading with you, though he seems out of his mind.

Question 11: Will you open the door for the man?

Fade To White

You've made your decision about whether or not to let the man out and suddenly everything quickly fades to white.

You don't seem to be anywhere. Up, down, left, right, none of these things matter anymore. You are simply floating in white. You cry out but there is no one to hear you.

There is only one question to answer regarding this abrupt purgatory:

Question 12: What do you do? Do you explore and try to escape? Do you give up and accept your fate?

And with that, the test is over! Let’s get into the explanations.

The Forest, Explained

The forest is representative of the inner you - all of the things that make up who you are on the inside.

The path is your connection to childhood, to your present, and to your death. But this forest is everything that you are.

So let's dig in and see what we've learned about you.

Question 1: If the forest was disorganized, then there's a good chance you're disorganized too.

If the forest was neat and clean and even and well organized, it's safe to say that you are those things also.

If the trees were a random pattern, it could be a sign that little things are less important to you.

If the trees were more evenly patterned, it could be a sign that smaller details are important to you.

Question 2: The choice in question two was light and dark.

If the forest was bright and well lit in the daylight, it means you probably have a sunnier outlook on your life.

If the forest was dark, you may have a darker outlook.

If it was somewhere in between, you may view life through a pragmatic lens.

Question 3: The path represents the path that you're on.

So the state of the path is telling of how you perceive the state of your life as a whole.

If the path was rugged and not so well traveled, it could mean that you see yourself breaking away from other people who occupied this world, doing your own thing.

A better kept path probably means you view your life as more traditional and "normal."

The Key, Explained

The key represents the whole of your desires, from your sexual desires to personal desires to professional desires.

It can be a promise or it can be a threat. It can be an unknown or a gateway to another world.

Question 4: How old the key was in your imagination may indicate the age and maturity of your dreams.

If it was an ornamental key, it may be a sign that you want nicer things and have larger ambitions.

If it was a super old key, ancient in fact, it may mean that you think you've got some big surprises in store for you.

The larger the key was, the more you hope to get out of your life.

A smaller key may mean you're dreaming too small.

Question 5: If you took the key with you, it means that you may have desires that you want to see through.

If you left the key behind, you probably see change as more of a threat than something that could open new doors for you.

The Bear, Explained

The bear is a simple one to wrap your head around. It represents your problems.

Question 6: If the bear seemed scary, then your problems are probably pretty scary too.

You're likely very worried about getting through the experience with your problems, a big scary bear, alive.

However, if it was just a bear hanging out doing banal bear stuff, it means that you've got a good handle on your problems and you'll likely come out on top of them if you stick to your plans and remain confident.

Question 7: If the bear was large, you probably feel your problems are huge.

If the bear was smaller, it means you've got a good handle on the little problems in your life.

The Urn, Explained

Urns are traditionally used to house the remains of people who have passed away.

In this case, the urn is representative of those who have come before you.

They are the people who lived so that you could also live. They are long since gone.

The urn could represent your parents or your grandparents or relatives you never knew.

Question 8: If the urn was large, it is an indication that your family is important to you, and that the people who came before you carry a lot of weight in your mind.

If it was small, your ancestry probably isn't that important to you.

If the urn is made of something strong, it means you hold your ancestry in high regard.

If it is a weak substance and crumbling, that reflects your feelings on your family.

Question 9: What was inside of the urn, if anything, represents how you feel about your past generations.

If there was nothing there, you may not feel very connected to the people who came before you.

If it was full of water or a liquid of some kind, it means you believe you have something to gain from the people who came before you.

If it was filled with ash or sand, it may mean that you feel like it's not that important, that it's old, gone, and no longer relevant to you, like the dead.

The House, Explained

Chances are you were a little bit thrown by this house at the end of your path.

Seems like a weird situation, right? Well, let's break it down.

The house itself represents the size of your dreams.

Question 10: A large house indicates that you have big big dreams of wealth and prosperity and higher responsibilities.

A smaller house may show you that you want a more humble lifestyle.

Let's now look at what's inside the house.

Question 11: So there's a crazy madman in this house. That was something, wasn't it?

The madman represents how you feel about the rest of humanity.

If you opened the door, it shows your kindness and your willingness to help even the most far gone.

If you left it closed before being sucked into the whiteness, it means that you hold a greater degree of caution than most.

The Whiteness, Explained

You can probably guess what the whiteness at the end of your path indicates.

It represents your death, specifically that nothing changes once you are gone.

Question 12: Almost everyone wants to find a way out of this ever-encompassing whiteness.

A handful do not, simply accepting that this situation is what it is and to just go with it.

If you accept it, you've probably accepted the inevitability of death.

If you fought it, it probably means that you've got a lot of life to live still and that you aren't ready for a change as big as death.

10+ Things You Don't Owe Anyone (Even If You Think You Do)

There are always moments in our lives where we feel as if we must do this certain thing for this certain someone all because we are a good person and want to live up to those expectations that people have set for us.

Well, the truth of the matter is that you don't necessarily owe anything to anyone.

The fact that you are so willing to put other people's needs before your own is a very wonderful quality to have.

However, if you find yourself being the one who ends up with nothing in the end more often than not, then you should consider these good reasons to just say no the next time someone wants an explanation out of you.

I know how much social pressure there is to conduct yourself a certain way. Some people they know what's best for you and the whole world. But remember...

1. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your living situation.

It doesn't matter what kind of living situation you're in, whether you have housemates, live alone, live unmarried with a partner, or live with your ex still.

You don't need to explain to anyone why you live the way that you do.

2. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your life priorities.

Want to open a business? Become a pastor at your church?

Sell all your belongings and backpack through India? Go for it! And remember, you don't have to explain your priorities to anyone.

They are yours, and you don't have to try to impress people with them.

3. You don't owe anyone an apology if you are not sorry.

If you've done something that someone else doesn't like but that you don't regret, you don't owe them an apology.

An apology is to try to rectify a mistake and the impact it's had on others.

4. You don't owe anyone an explanation for requiring alone time.

If you need alone time, you're not being rude, introverted, or unfriendly. You just need time alone.

You don't have to explain your need for that. Just enjoy that precious time alone.

5. You don't owe anyone your agreement on their personal beliefs.

When people share their personal beliefs with you, it's often a sign of trust that should be cherished.

It's a window into their souls and the way they think. But just because someone has shared their personal beliefs with you doesn't mean you have to nod in agreement.

Also, see #3.

6. You don't owe anyone a yes to everything they say.

I know it can be hard to say no to the hard ask, but just know that you don't have to say yes to everything everyone asks of you.

Know your limits and what you're willing to do for others.

7. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your physical appearance.

If you've lost weight, gained weight, changed your hair, grown a beard, or done anything with your physical appearance, you don't owe anyone an explanation for it.

You're just doing you. They can deal with pink hair.

8. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your food preferences.

We all like different types of food. If someone tries to judge you over it, don't engage.

You don't have to explain what kind of food you like to eat. You just eat what you want to.

9. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your sex life.

Whether your sex life doesn't exist or does with another consenting adult, it's no one's business but your own.

People will try to judge you for who you sleep with or what your sexuality is, but what they think generally doesn't matter.

10. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your career or personal life choices.

When it comes to the direction you're going in life, you don't owe anyone an explanation for your career or the direction you've opted to go.

Just go for it! The people who truly care for you will back you up.

11. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your religious or political views.

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Catholic, Protestant or Muslim, it's your choice and you don't owe anyone an explanation for it.

If someone wants to have a fun, candid discussion with you and you also want that, have at it!

A good debate or exchange of ideas is a lot of fun.

12. You don't owe anyone an explanation for being single.

It doesn't matter if you're single by design or by accident - you're single!

Chances are, you're pretty happy with it too. You might get pressured to go find a partner and get married, but you march to the beat of your own drum.

13. You don't owe anyone a date just because they asked.

This is such an important thing to remember. You don't have to say yes just because someone asked you to go out with them!

14. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your decision about marriage.

Want to get married at 18? Don't ever want to get married?

As long as you're an adult making decisions of your own accord, your decision about marriage is yours alone.

15. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your relationship choices.

Did you forgive a cheater? Did you get back together with your ex? Did you say no to a marriage proposal?

These decisions were made by you for your own set of reasons, and you don't owe anyone an explanation for that.

20+ Incredible Psychology Facts Everyone Should Know

Ever since I was a child, human psychology has fascinated me.

A lot of it seems like common sense, but when you really dive into the human psyche, things become extremely complex.

Below is a list of 23 incredible psychological facts that everyone absolutely needs to know!

1. Chocolate discharges the same chemical in your body as when you feel love.

When you eat chocolate, it releases several neurotransmitters in your brain that have a positive effect on human feelings.

One of the main neurotransmitters released is phenylethlyamine, which causes alertness, excitement, quickens the pulse rate and makes you happy!

It is often referred to as "the love drug" because it arouses feelings similar to those that occur when someone is in love. (source)

2. A 20 second hug releases chemicals in the body that help you trust the one you’re hugging.

Oxytocin is released in the body when a person considers themselves to be secure, safe and connected to their loved ones.

Through the release of this chemical, the brain knows that everything is safe and that there is no need to worry. (source)

3. We’re only capable of being close with about 150 people.

Dunbar's number is a suggested cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships.

Relationships in which an individual knows who each person is and how each person relates to every other person.

This number was first proposed in the 1990s by British anthropologist Robin Dunbar, who found a correlation between primate brain size and average social group size. (source)

4. Your brain is more creative when it’s tired.

If you're trying to do creative work, you'll actually have more luck when you're more tired and your brain isn't functioning as efficiently.

This sounds crazy, but it actually makes sense when you look at the reasoning behind it.

It's one of the reasons why great ideas often happen in the shower after a long day of work. (source)

5. The brain feels rejection as pain.

We all know that rejection hurts, but neuroscience has concluded that it does in fact, literally, hurt.

While the brain does not process emotional pain and physical pain identically, the reaction and cascading events are very similar, and the same natural chemical is released during both events. (source)

6. You can't multitask.

Don't believe the multitasking hype, scientists say.

New research shows that we humans aren't as good as we think we are at doing several things at once. But it also highlights a human skill that gave us an evolutionary edge. (source)

7. 80% of conversations are gossiping.

It is often dismissed as mere tittle-tattle. But gossip is at the very core of being human, scientists believe.

Dr Nicholas Emler says that the swapping of juicy bits of information is fundamental to being human and separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. (source)

8. Relationships are more important for your health than exercise.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researchers found that the size and quality of a person's social ties affect specific health measures, such as abdominal obesity and hypertension, at different points in their lives. (source)

9. No blind person has ever developed schizophrenia.

Pretty interesting right?

Across all past papers, there has not been even one reported case of a congenitally blind person who developed schizophrenia. (source)

10. Your favorite song is likely associated with an emotional event.

You and everyone else. (source)

11. Music impacts your perspective.

This one seems kind of obvious!

A study at the University of Groningen showed that music has a dramatic impact on your perception. (source)

12. The more you spend on others, the happier you are.

According to various studies. Be sure to give plenty this holiday season! (source)

13. Spending money on experience instead of stuff also makes you happier.

Collect memories not things, right? (source)

14. Kids are more high strung today than the average psych ward patient in 1950.

Which is pretty scary but not surprising.

About half the human population now suffers anxiety, depression, or a sort of substance abuse. (source)

15. Certain religious practices lower stress.

"The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Mood Disorders" shows that people who engage in meditation and prayer religiously are less stressed out. (source)

16. Money does buy happiness, but only up to $75,000 a year.

For the average American, $75k a year buys happiness. It liberates you from poverty and gets you what you need in life. (source)

17. Being with happy people makes you happier.

This should come as no surprise. (source)

18. 18 to 33 year olds are the most stressed out people on earth.

Family, education, work, it can all be pretty stressful. (source)

19. Convincing yourself you slept well tricks your brain into thinking it did.

Thus giving you more energy. They called it "placebo sleep". (source)

20. Smart people underestimate themselves and ignorant people think they're brilliant.

It's called the Dunning Kruger Effect, it's real, and just go on Facebook and you'll see what I'm talking about. (source)

21. When you remember a past event, you're actually remembering the last time you remembered it.

Alright, that one blew the hell out of my mind.

This is why our memories fade and distort over time. (source)

22. Your decisions are more rational when thought in another language.

A university of Chicago study showed that Korean citizens who thought in foreign languages reduced their overall bias. Neat. (source)

23. If you announce your goals, you're less likely to succeed.

It's true.

Tests since the 1930's have pretty well proven it. (source)

7 Things (Besides Love) That A Relationship MUST Have, Or It Is Doomed

Relationships are a vexing thing, whether you're in high school starting to date or even a senior.

It is difficult if not impossible to perfectly understand and balance every aspect of being with someone else, which makes so many of these tips so useful.

But if you can figure out a way to truly meld and be in love with another human being, that is something to make you smile.

It's something to celebrate.

A true love is unlike anything else that happens in our world, and following these tips that we lay out below will help you achieve a state of harmony that many people simply cannot.

We hope that what you take away will help improve your current or next relationship, and that your life is filled with all of the love you can stand.

Enjoy reading, and please, if you think this can help someone in your life, share with them!

1. Respect

Respect is the foundation for every relationship.

It is the first requirement before you even go out on a date with someone.

If, for example, a man simply doesn't respect women, then he's automatically setting the relationship up for failure.

No woman should be with a man who doesn't respect women. It's a two-way street.

If a woman doesn't respect the man she's with, then there's no way the relationship will work for any length of time.

Before you've even so much as swiped right on a potential Tinder date, you need to be equipped with the knowledge of how to properly respect the human beings who occupy this planet with you.

Along with respect comes kindness, compassion, and understanding.

Without respect, your budding relationship won't ever amount to anything.

Treat respect as the foundation upon which a sturdy relationship is built.

2. Communication

While respect is the brick and mortar of the relationship itself, communication is key to determining whether or not the person you're with is the right person.

Our society has broken out of old social norms that dominated western culture for centuries.

Today, men and women both get to decide what kind of relationship they want to have.

No one has to settle for anything! It's a beautiful thing.

But in order to attract the right person to you, you need to be able to communicate the things you need out of your relationship.

As the relationship proceeds, you need to be able to communicate the things you like, the things you don't like, where you'd like to see things improve, what makes you happy, etc.

Sometimes couples don't communicate because they fear having tougher conversations, and almost universally, those relationships are doomed to fail.

You need to trust the person you're with will be open to listening to what you have to say.

3. Fun

So we've got respect and communication down.

The relationship is well on its way. You've maybe moved in together at this point and you've fallen into a routine.

Especially for younger couples, routine can be a death note for a relationship.

Couples stop going on dates, they stop going on adventures, they start getting bored, and this is where problems really start to arise.

The honeymoon phase doesn't usually last forever. Eventually things will start to feel a little dull.

If you've got an open line of communication, you'll be able to talk to your partner about these things, to suggest new ideas, new adventures, new dates.

Keep your relationship fresh, funky, and fun, and it'll keep plugging along into your golden years.

4. Honesty

Honesty is one of the toughest things in a relationship, because some of the things you'll need to be honest about will hurt.

The things your partner does will almost always impact you, and when it impacts you negatively, you need to be able to communicate about it openly and honestly.

It might hurt your partner to hear some of those things, but it's important nonetheless.

And without honesty, any rifts that might open up in your relationship due to behavior that isn't agreed upon by both parties (more on that later) can't be mended, and old wounds can't be healed.

So be willing to fully commit yourself to honesty, clear communication, and absolute openness.

5. Common Values

What kinds of values your budding relationship, and family, have is something that needs to be agreed upon.

You don't always have to see eye to eye on every little issue.

You don't have to be the same religion, the same political affiliation, or agree on much of anything.

But what you do need are common values.

You need to have it hashed out how you plan to raise your kids if you have any, how you treat the world you live in, and just what your values are in general.

Common values will help you smoothly traverse every obstacle your relationship might experience.

If you don't have the same values, if your beliefs don't line up in a way that's important for you, then the relationship probably won't work out.

It's best to face that now before you're more involved in it and the problems really start getting rough.

6. Goals

Every relationship needs goals, but don't misunderstand me.

Your goals don't have to be huge. Your partner doesn't need to have goals like being an underwater heart surgeon.

You don't have to get your master's degree in dog psychology. Goals doesn't mean 'extreme goals.'

It just means goals. Your goals could be to manage a small gas station franchise until you are ready to retire, or travel around the world in a retrofitted school bus.

It doesn't really matter what your goals are, just establish them. Make them clear.

You don't want to be a couple without any goals and find yourself drifting aimlessly when you get into your second decade of being together.

Be open and clear about what it is that you want in your life and in your relationship.

If your goals don't match up with your partner's, then it may be time to rethink the nature of your relationship as a whole.

7. Agreed Upon Terms

Nothing wrecks a relationship faster than two people who aren't willing to set terms, limits, and boundaries with each other.

I know, it sounds super rigid and lame, but these things are important.

You don't want to get into an aimless, termless relationship with someone only to find that they won't meet you halfway on things that are important to you.

Establish what you want. Make it clear how you want chores and labor to be divided.

Make it known what responsibilities will be handled by whom.

Agree on a set of terms so, if one person tries to back out, you can go back to discussing the original terms and what you agreed upon already.

This Is What Your Birth Month Reveals About Your Love Life

If You Wake Up At The Same Time Every Night, This What It Means

It's probably happened to you thousands of times over the course of your life.

With a sudden jolt, you're wide awake. You open your eyes and feel a little disoriented. It's still dark.

You wonder, "how long have I been asleep?" You turn over and check your clock only to find that you have awoken at exactly the wrong time.

It can be annoying, especially if you're wide awake, unable to return to sleep.

But when you stop and think about it, there might be a good reason for why you're suddenly waking up in the middle of the night.

The time of the night that you wake up actually has a great deal of meaning when you dive in and begin to understand it.

According to feng shui, an ancient Chinese practice, different hours of the night are associated with different aspects of your body and your mind.

Let's break down what each time of the night means for you.

If you wake between 9pm and 11pm

It's hands down the most annoying time to wake up.

You probably haven't been asleep for very long and now you have to start all over again with trying to fall back asleep.

But there may be something deeper happening that you're not quite realizing. If you're waking up between 9 and 11pm, it could be an issue with your thyroid.

During this time of sleep, your body's homeostasis is being rebalanced.

This is an average time that most people try to fall asleep. This is the time that our endocrine system rebalances and enzymes are replenished.

The endocrine system manages hormones and metabolism. If you have trouble falling asleep at this time, you could be stuck in a flight or fight mode.

You are still mentally stuck in the events of the day or already preparing for tomorrow's challenges.

Repeat positive mantras, and release the formations causing you tension.

So if you're having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, it may mean that your body, and specifically your thyroid, is having trouble restoring your body's balance in preparation for a good night's sleep.

If this is an issue, consider avoiding gluten for a short period of time and consume cruciferous vegetables raw if possible.

If you wake between 11pm and 1am

It could mean a few different things.

It's not uncommon for the body to jolt awake around this time if you've had caffeine a little too late in the day or had a few too many beers after dinner.

But there could be something else going on in your body causing you to wake up during this time.

Around this time of the night, your gall bladder is hard at work making sure your body is ready to digest the next day's food.

Something could be irritating your gall bladder if you're waking up around this time, especially if your stomach is a little upset as well.

If you wake often at this time it may be due to resentments you carry. This is the time in the 24 hour cycle that yin energy is turned into yang.

Yang energy is highly active, and your body is supposed to be storing this energy for the next day.

Reinforce self love and appreciation, doing your best to stay calm and conserve energy.

This is physically when the gallbladder is breaking down fats. You maybe are getting too much unhealthy fats or oils.

You may want to lay off fatty foods, high fat meats, butter, creamy foods, and chocolate before bed, or in general, if you're waking up between 11pm and 1am.

If you wake between 1am and 3am

The cause could be rooted in your emotions or your body. Usually during this time, you've had one to two full sleep cycles.

If your dreams have been harsh, like dreams of reliving painful experiences that have happened to you, it's not uncommon for the body to wake to give you time to process what you've been dwelling on.

But the issue could be internal as well.

The liver is always at work detoxing your blood and making up for some of your dietary mistakes.

If waste isn't being eliminated properly, you could find yourself waking around this time due to the strain put on your liver.

This is a crucial time for the body's detoxification and renewal process. Your liver is breaking down toxins and releasing toxins, while making fresh blood.

Waking during this time is normally indicative of anger, frustration and negative formations.

If you are not addressing these spiritual toxins, then your spiritual 'liver' is trying to call attention to these problems.

If you're concerned about your liver health, obviously go see a doctor.

But in the meantime, you can eat foods like leafy vegetables, avocados, citrus fruits, and garlic to maintain good liver health.

If you wake between 3am and 5am

Your issue could be physical or perhaps even spiritual. This period of the night is often called "the witching hour."

In the olden days, women caught out and about during this period of time were sometimes punished under the belief that they were performing witchcraft, thus the name of the hour.

From 3am and 5am, most people are asleep, which puts them in a state of greater spiritual openness.

Because of this, energies from the other side can start to creep into our world.

If you find yourself waking during the witching hour, it could be that someone who has passed on is trying to reach you.

This is the time that your lungs are under repair and flooding your body with oxygen.

Make sure that you are warm enough to help facilitate bodily functions.

If you wake during this time then try breath exercises.

Problems with the lungs are often related to grief and sadness.

The best way to fall back asleep during this hour is by shutting your eyes and spending time in meditation.

Messages that spirits are trying to communicate to you might reach you, and if anything, deep breathing and mind-clearing can help you drift peacefully back to sleep.

If you wake between 5am and 7am

it could be that you're unusually stressed out, anxious, or feeling guilty.

When there's a lot on your plate, your mind may naturally try to wake you up extra early so you can get a jump on dealing with all the things you have to do during the day.

It could also be related to anxiety, where the mind has been preoccupied on the things that make you anxious all night and it can't tolerate it anymore.

Thus, waking you up gives you the opportunity to work through and deal with these things.

Any toxins released and broken down earlier in the night are getting cleared out of the system.

The large intestine is active during this time. Eating a poor diet or too late can lead to problems that will wake you at this time.

If you wake up during this time, I strongly advise that you not try to go back to sleep but instead to let yourself wake up.

Take these early early morning hours to do some yoga, to meditate, to drink some tea or coffee and make yourself a very healthy breakfast with plenty of vegetables and protein.

The Brutal Truth Behind The Toxic Relationship Between A Narcissist And An Empath

Are you a narcissist or an empath? Take the quiz at the bottom of this article to find out!

I'm an empath, and I think narcissists are special.

It may seem kind of silly, but the narcissist, the one so focused on how great they are, is actually profoundly wounded.

Something in childhood got to them. It unraveled them. It damaged them. And so now they seek validation.

But here I am. I'm an empath.

I'm a healer. I absorb what other people are feeling it and feel it as if it were my own.

My own pain, my own anguish, my own hurt.

Narcissists rarely know an empath's boundaries. It makes us easy to bond with. We eat their pain like breakfast lunch and dinner.

What I always forget when I love a narcissist is that they're takers. They don't give much back.

They look to you to fix them. They're never fixed though.

This leaves the empath now shattered and losing touch with their empathy.

It's how narcissists are born. It's hard to escape from.

At the end of the day, the narcissist is going to be manipulative. They desire deeply to be in a position of control.

All an empath really wants is love and to be loved. I want to heal people. I want to care for people.

But narcissists grow stronger from love like mine. Their damage is never healed, but they feel better about themselves.

But a narcissist never makes a true connection to their authentic selves.

They will walk away from almost every relationship once they realize they can't control their partner anymore.

It's no longer a fun game.

It's just not possible for the two to bond. As an empath you will likely attract several different types of narcissists to your life.

Below we have a compiled a list of the five most popular types of narcissists you will encounter:

1. The Victim

A narcissist isn't always confident by nature. They can be quiet, reserved, and sensitive too.

They may engage in self-hatred and act like they aren't worthy.

They are often motivated by their fears and don't truly have the capacity to fully be themselves or loved.

Their narcissism is fueled by inferiority complexes.

2. The Superhero

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the superhero.

The one who thinks they're smart, sexy, perfect, and just kick ass all the way around.

They act like nothing can possibly hurt them and that your duty in life is to make them feel super great about themselves because they are, after all, the best.

3. The Perfect Lover

This narcissist seems lovely at first because they display incredible care, affection, and perfection to you in the beginning.

They flatter you, give you gifts, and make you love them. As soon as they have you, they use you until they are no longer interested.

They eventually cast you aside as boring. These people are often "gold diggers" as well.

4. The Elitist

This is a type of narcissist that probably came from money and wants to stay that way.

They grew up in the lap of luxury and as a result look down on everyone else.

They may seem pragmatic, successful, intelligent, and driven at first, but eventually they demonstrate a desire to one up, brag, and self-promote.

5. The Schemer

This type of narcissist seems like they have good intentions from the start.

They do good for people and their community, but there's always something to their kindness.

They expect something in return. And if they don't naturally get it, they'll demand it.

If you don't give it to them, get ready for a serious conflict.

How Can An Empath Stop The Damage And Put An End To This Toxic Relationship?

Every attempt to communicate your feelings to a narcissist is a lost cause.

Narcissists are very charismatic and manipulative.

They will constantly try to blame the empath for the pain of both parties.

They will make the empath feel as though they are responsible for all the problems at hand.

The Empath Has A Simple Choice

You can either remain as a victim of the narcissist's cruel game, or you can find the needed strength to walk away and put an end to the relationship once and for all.

Empaths needs to accept the fact that a narcissist will never change.

Waiting around for a narcissist to become a better person is a waste of precious time.

In the end, the only thing that truly matters is that we let others treat us the way we think we deserve to be treated.

If an empath willing stays in a toxic relationship with a narcissist, they end up thinking that they do not deserve better than that.

This couldn't be farther from the truth.

As an empath, you need to understand that is not your job to fix others, especially those who do not want to be fixed.

You cannot fix someone who doesn't think there is anything wrong.

Empaths need to realize that the way they were treated from the different types of narcissists listed above is not a treatment they deserved.

Find the courage to leave the relationship and utterly walk away from the narcissist.

7 Contradicting Traits of The INFJ Personality Type That Make It Hard To Understand

All humans are at least somewhat contradictory. It's who we are.

We have different wants at different times. We can be real difficult to pin down. And the INFJ is no different.

INFJ is a personality type defined by the Myers-Briggs personality classification.

It stands for Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging. Broadly, INFJs tend to be more insightful about others than most other types.

Myers-Briggs defines these people as those who seek meaning and connection in ideas and relationships, as well as material possessions.

But the INFJ in particular is very complex, which leads to some dualistic tendencies and contradicting traits that border on hypocritical at times.

We'll break down these traits below.

1. They hate being here but they want to make it better

INFJ's have a great deal of difficulty feeling like they belong and like where they are matters.

In a lot of ways, they don't really care where they are. But they also like to make things better wherever they go.

But where they happen to go is another story. While INFJ wants to see things improve where they are, where they are can change on a whim.

They're the types to move across country for no reason in particular or switch houses for the fun of it.

INFJs don't easily feel like they're at home and rarely stick in one spot.

Still, if there's an INFJ in your life, chances are your life is going to get a lot better, even if they don't stick around for too long.

Enjoy your time with your INFJ, even if it's fleeting. And hopefully one day they'll find the place they'll call home.

2. Their feet are on the ground but their heads are in the clouds

INFJs are grounded, rational, sensible people who love metaphysical woo and deep philosophical ideas.

On one hand, they want themselves and their people to be grounded and sane but they still love ghost stories, spiritual conversations, and deep philosophical intrigue that can go on and on and on.

This tends to make the INFJ well rounded and wise, if not a bit silly and hard to understand.

INFJs, because of all this, tend to come off as a little bit otherworldly. While they want to live a simple life, they tend to have extravagant tastes.

They tend to want to be minimalists but can't let go of all the cool stuff they've collected.

3. They stand up for others, but not themselves

INFJs are like superheroes to everyone but themselves.

They are caring and attentive of others and would jump in front of a bullet for you.

They're empathic, they feel the emotions and the senses of other people and would do dang near anything to make the people in their lives happy and exude positivity.

But conversely, they are almost incapable of doing any of those things for themselves. They'll stand up for you, but rarely will they stand up to you.

INFJs are very conscious of hurting the feelings of others, which makes them less likely to speak up on their own behalf out of fear of causing problems for someone else.

Even when the other person is so seriously wrong, INFJs just kinda let it go.

It comes at a great cost to INFJ more often than not, but the strength of their friends helps them through choppy waters and rocky situations.

That's the benefit of sticking up for just about everyone you know.

4. They’re messy clean

INFJs have an unusual space.

They're often very meticulous about cleaning but not very meticulous about being organized, or vice versa.

It's not uncommon to sit down at the desk of an INFJ and see it covered in dust and old coffee mugs but open a desk drawer and everything inside of it will be pristine and well placed.

INFJs are creative types, so they rarely settle for a space that looks the same for longer periods of times.

Tidiness may seem like madness and cleanliness like an insane waste of time.

The imperfections of an INFJ's space is what makes them feel whole, safe, secure, and interesting.

Their homes will probably look different to you each time that you visit because they're constantly arranging and rearranging things.

Go with the flow.

5. They’re creative but sensible

INFJs are in the middle of the road when it comes to balancing dreams and action. In particular, they're very creative but also sensible.

They're the kinds of people who have incredible artistic talent but chose to pursue a business degree instead and, in the middle of life, open an etsy shop that sells chicken sweaters, their creative speciality (obviously).

Their rational, sensible side measures out just about every single thing an INFJ does, which can be tedious if you're in a relationship with one.

Decisive action isn't common and when a decision is made, for the most part, it's a pretty safe decision.

They're not the biggest risk takers even though they have some pretty big dreams.

INFJs tend to have a very strong set of values and aren't all that spontaneous.

When an INFJ puts their mind to something big, there really is next to nothing they cannot accomplish.

6. They’re chill but demand perfection

INFJ are a pretty relaxed people. They kinda go with the flow and do whatever.

But in a way, they're perfectionists. Don't worry though, that perfectionism is mostly inwardly focused, not an expectation on the people around them.

That wouldn't be all that chill, would it? At heart, INFJ wants to be wacky, spontaneous, and fun.

But they're often drawn back to their strong core values that really don't allow for that kind of behavior.

Instead, they keep their feet firmly on the ground and find more subtle ways to get their rebellious tendencies out of their systems.

Sometimes rebellion to an INFJ is simply rebelling against the structure they've set up for themselves.

7. They want to be left alone with all of their friends

INFJs are loners at heart, but they're socialites as well. It's an odd combination.

They tend to be introverted, often thinking about what's happening inside of their own minds instead of what's going on around them.

Yet INFJs enjoy the company of others. It comes from the sensitive, warm nature of the INFJ.

They enjoy their alone time but can't resist the urge to bring people in, cook dinner, have drinks, and talk until dawn.

While they're private, they crave the ability to share their life and their space with the people in their life.

But don't be too surprised when INFJ simply disappears for days on end after a large gathering.

Like most introverts, they'll need time to fully recharge.

10+ Signs A Deceased Loved One Is Trying To Contact You

I used to think it was just my imagination playing tricks on me when certain unexplainable things happened around me.

Just the other morning, I was sitting downstairs in the living room when I heard a loud crash somewhere upstairs. I thought my roommate had broken something, but he had not.

He yells down for me to come upstairs and see what had happened.

So, I rush up to find one of glass, bathroom light coverings shattered all over the sink and floor.

My roommate was in bed at the time, saying there's no way this could have happened without someone physically taking the light covering out of its slot and then dropping it.

Since then, strange things have been happening around the house at random times throughout the day. But am I afraid? Not really.

It's likely just a spirit who is wandering, or maybe it's one of my own who is trying to reach out to me.

Spirits contact the living for a variety of reasons.

It's hard losing someone who you were close with. I don't even need to tell you that, I'm sure.

We've all lost someone. It's a harsh reality of life.

But even though they're physically gone, they can still be near us from time to time.

These are signs your deceased relative is still with you or trying to contact you:

1. You smell them

When the spirit of a loved one is near, it can manifest in a number of ways.

One of the more common ways is scent. The way someone smells is often the strongest connection to them.

It can be the smell of pipe tobacco or perfume, or even the odor of your favorite food being prepared.

Appreciate it. It's a message being sent directly to you from your deceased loved one.

2. Your senses are extra sensitive

Spirits like to stimulate the senses when they communicate.

You might smell a scent that is familiar to you, one that a loved one used to wear.

Or maybe you'll hear faint traces of their voice, speaking to you.

The room might suddenly drop in temperature, or they'll rub up against you.

Or maybe you get a taste in your mouth from a dish that they used to make.

These are all ways that a spirit will reach out to you.

3. Seashells

Sometimes, even when you're far away from the ocean, you find seashells.

It may seem kind of random, but they say your loved ones offer you gifts after they pass, and seashells are one that grab your attention.

4. They appear in your dreams

This is one of the more common ways that spirits interact with us.

Our subconscious minds are more open to the spirit world, often allowing them to come in.

Dreams involving spirits tend to be incredibly realistic and not very dreamlike.

Pay close attention to what they might mean. It could be a message from beyond the grave.

5. Electronics stop working, or they all start working at once

Electronics are one of the most common mediums through which a spirit will attempt to communicate with you.

If you keep a radio in the room, they could attempt to speak to you through a specific frequency.

Remember that these spirits are not here to hurt you.

You may be frightened at what's happening, but they're simply trying to find a way to reach you from the other side.

6. Pennies

They say that when you begin finding lots of pennies, it means that your loved ones are watching over you.

But perhaps it's just superstition.

7. Your items go missing

It can feel like you've lost your mind when you find items have been moved from the place you know you left them.

It could be a dead relative or friend playing a joke on you.

It sounds silly, but just because they're dead doesn't mean they've lost their desire to screw with you. Laugh it off.

8. You just know that they're nearby

Sometimes we get these strange feelings that we're not alone anymore.

It's not something you can readily describe, but you know that you feel different about your surroundings suddenly.

This can be a sign that a deceased loved one is close to you, or at least in the room with you.

You sense a presence, one that is comforting and loving.

9. Music

One thing I noticed after my grandmother passed away was that suddenly all of her favorite music was appearing to me.

I'd put on my Nirvana station on Pandora and, out of the blue, her favorite song by Dean Martin would come on.

Then I'd get in my car, switch to the local public radio station, and there it is again.

10. Unusual thoughts

You may experience having thoughts that don't feel like they're yours, almost like your internal monologue has been co-opted.

This may be a sign that your passed loved ones are still with you.

If you feel like you've had a foreign thought, take some time to think about it.

Especially when your inner monologue starts talking to you as if it isn't you.

11. Numbers

When my father died, I was completely distraught.

Over time, I recovered from that loss and carried on with my normal day to day life.

It was then that I began to notice it. His birthday. 7.22. Every time I looked at my watch, it was 7:22.

When I looked at clocks, 7:22. Put up a random YouTube video and it's 7 minutes and 22 seconds long.

I realize now it was my passed father trying to reach me.

12. Signs at the funeral

According to James Van Praagh, a renowned psychic, our spirits attend our own funerals.

They roam the room, trying to comfort their loved ones and give them signs that everything is okay.

Often, because people are so absorbed in their grief, these signs go unseen.

When attending a funeral, stay open to the signs they offer.

13. You feel a sudden sense of comfort

Sudden feelings of easiness, comfort, safety and stability are all signs that someone from the spirit realm is watching out for us.

Our loved ones who are no longer with us want us to know that we are still loved and have someone looking out for us.

So, they like to visit us during times of duress or when we need someone to lean on.

If your recent hard time has been met with sudden feelings of comfort and support, you can be sure that they are with you.

Fun Test: The Thing You See First Says A Lot About Your Current Situation

There are a lot of different types of personality tests, some more scientific than others.

While many are very concise, like the Meyers-Briggs personality test, the hallmark of a good online personality test is that it's fun to take!

One of my favorite types of personality tests are based optical illusions. An optical illusion is an illusion caused by crossed wires in your brain.

Information is gathered by the eye and processed by the brain, but optical illusions can often be very different than how our brains initially perceive them.

There are three types of optical illusion: literal optical illusions that create images different from the objects that make them, cognitive illusions, which are the result of unconscious inferences, and physiological illusions, caused by excessive stimulation of some type or another.

Each one of the illusions below will employ a different type of optical illusion, and the results, namely what you see first, will shed some light on the way your brain thinks and your personality works.

Optical Illusion #1

Take a good look at the above image. What did you see?

If you saw a car, that probably means that your freedom is important to you.

The ability to hit the road, meet new people, see new places, and experience new things is near and dear to your heart. You usually take life at your own pace and do what comes naturally.

If you saw a man with binoculars, it indicates that you tend to be more analytical.

You look at the bigger picture and disregard minor details for the most part. You're usually able to learn visually and absorb information quickly. You might want to make sure you pay attention to detail more consciously.

If you saw the letter A, which is arguably the most difficult thing to see first in the image, it means you have an eagle eye unmatched by most.

You tend to see the little details and are a little more intuitive than people who saw a man with binoculars or a car.

Optical Illusion #2

Take a look at the image above. What do you see?

If you saw a crocodile, it means that you're probably looking at the bigger picture.

You might be a little bit dismissive by nature, not looking too closely at things that don't immediately strike you as important.

You are probably very practical and not much of a risk taker. You live a life more on the cautious side and don't make much room for new things.

However, if you saw a boat, you've got a great eye for small details and few things are able to get past you without you noticing.

You tend to be more unique, quirky, and creative than most.

But be careful that you don't get mired in little details, especially if you're an artist or a student.

Optical Illusion #3

Take a look at the line drawing above. What do you see?

If you saw an old man, it indicates that you are a gentler, more sensitive person who can feel the feelings of others remarkably well.

And because you saw the old man first, it means that you are more than likely using the right side of your brain more than the left.

That's the more creative hemisphere, indicating you're an artistic person.

If you saw the woman first, it means you're a fair amount more thoughtful and analytical, perhaps even calculating compared to those who see an old man.

You probably use your left brain more so than the right brain. But your cold, analytical thinking can be used for good.

Don't try to suppress the side of you that wants to believe in the best in people, to heal people, and to create a better world.

Optical Illusion #4

Take a look at the image above. What do you see?

If you saw pillars in the image, it may seem like a stretch, but it signals that you like comfort and security.

You probably won't achieve the big things you want out of your life unless you're able to break out of the bars you've put up around the life.

Step outside your comfort zone and experience new things. It's also a sign that you're too focused on dreaming and not enough on working.

If you saw men between the pillars, it means that you're free and ready to move on from where you are at any time.

Your life is hardly dull. In fact, it's full of some incredible people and things.

You are sensitive and kind, but be careful that you don't spend your whole life drifting. Be ready to settle down when the time comes.

Optical Illusion #5

Take a look at the image above. What did you see?

If you saw faces first, it means that you probably have people on your mind a lot of the time.

You tend to be much more extroverted than most. You're a socialite, you love surrounding yourself with people.

You tend to be influenced easily by others as well as external energy and stimuli.

This means it's important for you to surround yourself with good, positive, uplifting people. Be careful who you keep in your company.

If you saw a candlestick first, it's a sign that you tend to be more introverted, that you aren't really thinking about people so much as yourself and your own thoughts.

You enjoy being home more than going out and find yourself to be at your strongest when you're on your own or with only a couple people, behind closed doors.

Optical Illusion #6

Take a look at the image above. What did you see?

If the first thing you saw was a woman, it may mean that you feel like you have to be on the defensive a lot of the time.

The woman in the photo is on the ground with her knees bent, hands on her head, defending her face.

You may be feeling emotionally or physically drained right now. The woman represents deep, inner regret.

You may have just finished a difficult time in your life.

If the first thing you saw was a skull, it may be a sign that you're having a hard time making decisions and can't really see the path forward.

Your obstacles are huge and the challenges ahead are many.

But remember, you'll be stronger when you come out on the other side of it all.

Optical Illusion #7

Take a look at the image above. What did you see?

If you are a woman and saw the man's face first, it may mean that you have a high sex drive or are more interested in finding a romantic partner right now.

If you already have a partner, it's probably a sign that you are deeply connected with him - he's often at the forefront of your mind - and things are going smoothly.

If you are a man and saw the man in the photo first, it means you may be concerned about interpersonal relationships with other men, whether it's someone at work, at the gym, or a close friend.

If you are a woman and you saw the woman's face first, it means you feel comfortable in your own skin and your positive attitude will pay dividends.

If you are a man and saw the woman's face first, it may be an indication that you are looking for a partner to share your life with. You might be looking a little too hard. Give yourself time and it will all fall into place.

10+ Signs You've Definitely Found Your Soul Mate

Finding a soul mate is #1 for many people. Personally, I believe you have a lot of chances to do so.

Your soul mate might not necessarily just be one person. There's a reincarnation based believe that I've always been fond of.

That belief is that when you die, your soul shatters and breaks into pieces.

Those pieces are randomly brought together with pieces of many other souls to form new souls and new people.

So when you meet someone that you so strongly click with or find that person who is so clearly your soul mate, you're really finding pieces of your soul in them, and they're finding pieces of their soul in you.

1. You Just Connect Without Trying

Maybe you met through a mutual friend. You might have run into each other at the park.

Maybe you were making eyes at each other at the bar.

Whatever the case, when you finally said hello, there was electricity. There was a deep and intense connection made through conversation and body language.

For some couples, this feeling fades over time but with your soul mate, it only grows more intense over time.

Enjoy this, because it's not something everyone gets to have.

2. Your Level Of Communication Is Unmatched

Every long lasting relationship's success can be attributed to the ability to communicate not just clearly but authentically.

This communication is real, nothing is hidden and there's clearly no lying. There's nothing to hide.

This leaves you open and vulnerable with your partner. It sometimes takes practice, but soul mates have this type of communication with one another.

It's important for soul mates to voice their needs and know that communication comes in many different forms.

But good communication will lead to a higher connection.

3. You Create Your Own World Together

The strongest relationships with soul mates are the ones where they create together.

Sure, it can be fun to lay in bed and watch movies. Hanging out is great.

But if that's all you do, where are you headed?

Soul mates find the things they have in common, and even some things they don't, and jump in with both feet.

They share with one another the arts, sciences, and create together.

Sharing these passions pushes your passions for one another even further.

4. Things Are Just Kind Of Intense

Everything about your relationship seems intense.

What you do for fun, your ideas, your passions, your fights - everything has a certain fire behind it.

5. You Feel Like You've Known Them Forever

A soul mate is a person defined as someone who shares a piece of your soul, so chances are, you've actually known them in a past life.

So that extremely familiar feeling makes sense. You should know them. You have a part of each other in you both.

6. You Just Get Each Other

It's not something I can especially easily describe here.

But there's just something between you that clicks. You understand what they're thinking and feeling.

7. You Love Even Their Imperfections

If you feel like you constantly need to change your partner for the better, it's not exactly a good sign.

With a soul mate, you'll find even their stranger quirks and imperfections endearing.

8. You Just Can't Picture Life Without Them

Once you've met your soul mate, you just can't see going on without them.

It's impossible to picture what life would be like without them gracing your presence.

9. It's Feels Like It's You Two Against The Whole World

No matter what shit might go down, you have each others' backs. You can ride out any storm together.

10. You Have A Telepathic Bond

Like ET and Elliot, you seem to know what they're feeling, know what they're about to say; you think about them and not long after they shoot you a call or a text message.

11. You See It In Their Eyes

You look in their eyes and see something so...familiar. They draw you in almost immediately.

Experts on reincarnation don't think it's an accident. Pay close attention to the eyes of the people you meet.

12. You Love An Inspiring Person

At the end of the day, old souls are here to seek out people to inspire.

They want to leave the world a better place. Join forces with them and you'll make waves in this life.

13. You Love An Honest Person

They don't lie to your face, especially over petty things.

This will sometimes hurt, but they don't sugarcoat how they feel.

14. You Love Someone Who Thrives On Philosophical Conversations

They don't have time to talk about the Kardashians or neighborhood gossip.

They want good, mentally stimulating conversations. Be ready for that!

15. You Love Someone Who Wants To Share Life's Lessons

They want to share what they've learned with the whole world.

16. You Love Someone Who Will Be Supportive Of You

Soul mates want to see the best in themselves and their partners.

Even if what they think you're doing is a little bit silly, they have your back. They will express opinions though.

Everyone Sins. Which Sin Are You, Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Sin is very easy to commit to, especially since it's almost everywhere you look.

There is hardly anyone out in this world who hasn't sinned before, and there is a pretty good reason why.

Our Zodiac signs play a key role in our lives when it comes to indulging in being a little bit sinful, or extremely sinful, depending on who you are.

Sometimes our Zodiac signs induce sin into our everyday lives, making it a habit that we are not so easily able to break away from.

It's important that we are able to identify these certain kinds of elements within ourselves, especially when it comes to being sinful.

Sure, sinning can be a lot of fun, but there is also such a thing as moderation. So, how are you going to tame the sin that your Zodiac likes to follow most?

1. Aries + Murder

Aries can be extremely rage-filled and unpredictable.

If you face the wrath of an Aries, you may not survive. Not only can an Aries by extremely intense, but they are also unbelievably spontaneous.

They're so spontaneous that it almost always leads to trouble.

Aries have to be careful, if they let their rage get the best of them, they might just end up harming someone!

2. Libra + Vanity

Libras hardly care for anything else but their own beauty.

Just as long as they are able to look in the mirror and see their beautiful faces, then they have all they need to continue on in life.

Even though a Libra may spend hours on end in front of their mirror, they still like to try and work on their inner beauty.

After all, being beautiful inside and out is one of the keys to success right?

3. Scorpio + Lust

Scorpios relate to lust a lot more than any other sin.

This is because they have a passion for being extremely intimate with others.

Always leading people on with your words, making sure they hear everything you have to say, you love to be in lust with people.

However, you can never find love in anyone, it is just too hard not be as lustful as you are.

A majority of the time, you have troubles with close people leaving you for not wanting to commit.

4. Virgo + Envy

Virgo's are extremely unstable whenever they decide that they want the next best thing, or just how to get that next best thing.

They want to be what everyone talks about, especially when it comes to attracting a potential lover.

If you have your eyes on someone already who is not interested, then you tend to lurk around the corners wherever they are; thinking long and hard about how jealous you are that this person has something that you want.

You are not a natural lover.

5. Taurus + Gluttony

A Taurus could also be claimed as a certain kind of narcissist.

They only like to do things that are going to benefit them in the long run.

Whether it's good food, sex, or an expensive new toy, a Taurus runs rampant with their unhealthy acts of gluttony.

Most of the time you prefer that all of these things happen simultaneously, just to get the full effect of being a true glutton of this world.

6. Leo + Pride

Borderline to a narcissist, a Leo can prove to be one of the most selfish people when it comes to personal relationships.

You're a natural at everything you do and you know how to impress others with just the wink an eye.

Arrogant and extremely full of yourself, there are times when even the people you hold close want nothing to do with you.

I mean, who would want to help someone who's only looking for the reflection of themselves in the other person's eyes?

7. Capricorn + Greed

Capricorns have a hard time leaving their offices, and there is a pretty good reason for that.

You're a competitor and you are going to do everything in your power to make sure that you are the one who's making the most money out of everyone else in the workplace.

You don't even want to spend it, you just want to flaunt all of your success whenever you get the chance to claim your victories.

Greed corrupts you into doing things that you never thought possible.

8. Cancer + Worship

As a Cancer, you feel as if the person you love or whomever you are enamored with at the time is above everything else you've ever known.

You are constantly waiting on them hand and feet, making sure they have everything that they need as well as staying by their side through any kind of adversity.

You're thinking that this isn't that sinful. But think about it; you no longer think for yourself.

You would rather give your life away to someone else.

Someone who could crush it all at once without a second thought in their head. Be careful who you worship.

9. Aquarius + Self-Proclaimed God

Aquarius like to believe that they are way more special than everyone else is because this is just how god made them out to be.

Always boasting about how you have way more wisdom in your little pinky finger than anyone else does in their entire body.

Giving those around you new perspectives and insights makes you feel something deep inside.

However, a majority of the time you couldn't be farther from the truth than you already are.

10. Gemini + Dishonesty

Gemini have a horrible habit of mixing up their stories whenever it comes to telling the whole truth about something.

Maybe it's because your zodiac depicts you having two different faces, and perhaps they just happen to have different views about the same story.

Either way, you love to lie about petty things, as well as important things, especially if it doesn't involve you the way you want it too.

So, what better way to sabotage everything? Lie about it.

11. Pisces + Sloth

A Pisces can appear to be a person who loves to hold their head in the clouds a little too much.

Sometimes they can even seem like they are only existing in their own little world compared to the rest of us.

Always daydreaming the time away, thinking of what could be or what is yet to be, you let people pass you by as you continue to move at the same slow pace you always have.

This makes you extremely lazy when it comes to living in the present moment.

12. Sagittarius + Adultery

Sagittarius are often prone to being some of the most devious flirts.

Sex is a lot of fun for a Sagittarius, but this means that it can be very hard for them to keep a committed relationship going for long.

Even while they are with someone they love, they let their eyes wander from the potential heat they could get themselves into.

It's hard not to be a tease; but it's also hard not to find a good lay. Forever wandering from person to person.

Would you say that your Zodiac plays a huge part in the way you indulge with sinful acts? How would you describe yourself differently?

Suck It Up & Ask These 10+ Deep Questions Early In A Relationship

There are few things that match the bliss of the first few months of a really good relationship.

Everything is exciting. Every adventure is like the best one you've ever had. Every date is awesome and fun.

The honeymoon phase is sexy, carefree, and wonderful. But you're not dating this person just to have some chill good times.

You're potentially picking out a life partner - someone you'll be spending your days and nights with maybe for the rest of your life.

There are some pretty important questions you need to ask! It's not always fun. It really bursts the bubble.

But before you move onto later, more serious phases of your relationship, you've got to ask these questions.

The longer you push these conversations off, the worse off your relationship may end up. Not knowing these answers leaves you flying blind into a major life decision.

1. Are Kids A Deal Breaker?

Many couples have the conversation about whether or not to have children. It's actually pretty common, meaning it's not for this list.

But what many couples don't anticipate is that their partner may change their minds about it.

A must-have conversation is whether or not having or not having kids is explicitly a deal-breaker.

I've known married couples who wanted to have kids, then one changed their mind, and the marriage dissolved as a result.

I've seen couples decide to have a large family then, after one child, one partner decides that one is enough - and while in that situation it didn't end the marriage, it created a great deal of strife for a long time that never really got resolved.

If you're up front about it from the very get go, you have a way out that cannot be debated if your partner changes their mind.

You've made your wants and your needs clear from the very start, and if they change their mind, it's entirely on them.

2. What Kind Of Future Do You Want To Have?

When you're young, life is about figuring things out.

When you get into your 30's and 40's, what you want to be when you grow up becomes a lot more clear.

So the way this conversation goes depends a lot on how old you are.

No matter the age, knowing for sure that the person you're with wants a future with you is important. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.

Beyond that, if you're still college-aged, it's important to be flexible with your partner, as wants and needs may change.

When you're older, it becomes a lot more concrete. It's important to establish early on what direction your life is going to take and what you expect from your partner.

Getting that figured out at the start will save a lot of pain, arguing, and trouble down the line.

And again, it offers you an out if suddenly the life plans of your partner change and it no longer really matches up with what you want.

3. Where Are Your Deal Breakers?

We all have certain values, preferences, and needs.

There are certain things that we as individuals cannot and will not tolerate, and it's important to make those things known.

If you wouldn't be attracted to your partner if they became overweight, that's an important thing to talk about.

If you don't see eye to eye on sex, or religion, or parenting philosophies, those are kind of huge deals.

You need to take the time and make it clear what your deal breakers are; what you absolutely will not compromise on.

Take the time to learn the limits of your new partner and make your own limits as clear as day.

It's true, some of the standards we have might come off as ridiculous, but just because you think the standards are ridiculous doesn't mean you don't have to respect them.

4. What Are Your Priorities?

There's nothing wrong with working a dead end job or just kind of floating until you figure your thing out, especially if you're young (but really at any age, it's fine).

Where you might run into problems is if you are that kind of person and you find yourself with a go-getter who wants more out of the person they're with.

Make it clear what your priorities are, whether it's having fun, traveling, working a bum job, starting a family, pursuing a career, or running for president. Whatever.

And make sure that they're being up front and clear with you about the same.

You don't want to run for Governor and have a partner who's a shift manager at a Dairy Queen.

So be clear right at the get go about where you're headed and what's important to you.

5. What Are Your Views On Social/Racial Issues?

I'll tell you a personal story.

Years ago in my early 20's, I dated a man who was perfectly agreeable and pretty relaxed.

Things were going great for the first couple months. Nothing too serious yet, but well past those initial awkward stages of dating.

Then one day I decided to stalk his Facebook profile a little to see what he liked and disliked.

What I found out was that he liked a lot of racist Facebook pages. When I pressed him on this, he was forthright about it.

"Yeah, I just don't really like black people." Well, that's a total deal breaker for me and any conscious, not horrible human being, obviously.

Some people hide their awful beliefs from you for a long time, only to completely blindside you later on.

So ask it point blank: what are your thoughts on gay rights? White supremacy? Abortion? All of it.

6. What Are Your Religious Views?

There are few things in life that are held more dear to our hearts than our religions, our faith, our spirituality, or our lack thereof.

Many religious people are raised to dogmatically believe one thing or another, making it difficult to reconcile even the most minute of spiritual differences.

Still, it's an important conversation to have.

Casually dating someone of another faith may seem like no big deal to you, and maybe it's no big deal to them too, but you can't ever truly know until you've asked. So be real.

Ask the question, "Could you marry someone of another faith? How will your parents and family be about it? Would you be willing to culturally convert to my faith?"

Making sure you see eye to eye can save a lot of heartache down the road.

7. What Are Your Political Views?

It's incredible how major topics can get pushed aside when you're early on in a relationship.

In my opinion, this is way more important to some than it is others.

Personally, I have my views and I don't really concern myself with how my partner feels about the same issues.

For others, it's not so simple. Politics is something that's getting more and more divisive by the year and that goes for young couples and families too.

Politics is so high stakes these days that it can tear even the closest of relationships apart. So be honest.

Is politics important to you? Are your politics important to you? Is this a part of your identity at any level?

All necessary and important things to hash out.

8. What Do You Want Out Of Life?

It's a broad question that at different times in your life might be difficult to answer.

But it's a good question to ask to at the very least get a feel for a person.

If you want to hang close to home and start a family and they want to hike Mt. Everest and travel to every continent, you probably don't have the same set of priorities.

So talk about these things to make sure you're on the level with one another.

And there's nothing wrong with saying, "well, when you get to that point, we may have to re-evaluate," as long as you're open and honest about that possibility being on the table.

If you conceal that possibility, then any potential split in the future over priorities could become infinitely messier.

9. How Do You Fight?

All couples fight, but not all couples fight the same way.

Once you have your first big blowup, it'll become clear how your partner deals with problems.

But that doesn't mean you can't ask before it becomes an issue.

That way when a fight does arise, you can pause and say "Well you said once that this is how you like to deal with fighting, so let's put on the brakes a little bit and talk this out."

Once you're holding each other to a higher standard in a fight, the fight becomes less of me vs. you and more of us vs. the problem.

10. How Are Your Finances?

Okay, you might come off like a gold digger a little bit, but it's an important question to ask, even though the answer might not actually impact anything at all.

Some people have their finances together, some don't.

If your prospective partner doesn't have much of a savings account and hasn't planned for any retirement, it's okay, but it could lead to major issues down the line.

You may want to ask how they racked up all that credit debt or why their credit score is as poor as it is.

The answer may be simple to digest, or it may actually be an indication of majorly irresponsible behavior that could become a huge problem once your lives and finances are intertwined.

Lenders don't trust people who've defaulted on loans and had cars repossessed, so should you trust them either?

11. How Important Is Intimacy?

This is something that happens frequently among people who haven't had much dating experience.

Mistaking lust for long-term potential. Or even just basic compatibility.

When your sexual desire is strong enough, it can be very easy to start ignoring obvious flaws and making up positive qualities.

Often times, your desire to bang someone can lead to other issues.

If you've spent a significant amount of time trying to get someone into bed, you might find yourself spending more time with them than you should. Why?

Because you've invested all that time and you don't want to see it "go to waste." Obviously, this doesn't make sense, but when your reptile brain gets in the way, logic doesn't count for much.

Don't get me wrong, sexual compatibility is an incredibly important part of any serious relationship. Just as critically, there's nothing wrong with a relationship that's only focused on your attraction.

However, sexual attraction alone is a lousy foundation for a long-term relationship.

If you want your relationship to last, you're going to need more than "I really like seeing them naked."

12. How Is Your Family?

Family is low on the list of things I worry about at any stage of a relationship, but knowing where your partner is with their family and what kind of people they are is pretty important.

If your partner is close with their family, it's not a bad thing, but it could lead to big trouble if they don't wind up liking you.

There are few things that can put a bigger strain on a relationship than in-laws causing trouble or cousins trying to be live-in bum around housemates.

If you and your partner-to-be are different in some way, like racially, religiously, or politically, ask if that's going to cause any trouble with their family.

Be honest if you've got a racist uncle who wouldn't take kindly to a mixed race relationship.

10+ Habits of Toxic Parents and How They Ruin Children Without Realizing It

When you have a child, your entire life changes. Suddenly, everything is for the baby.

Every parent wants to be able to do right by their kids.

But there are many things that stand between you and being not a good parent, but the kind of parent your child needs.

That's the right way to look at it, in my opinion. Good and bad are relative.

But all kids need approximately the same thing in order to grow into happy, healthy, successful human beings.

Parents neglect to give their kids what they need for a lot of reasons.

I've seen parents read so many parenting books that they end up not knowing which way is the right way.

I've also seen parents who just don't care, letting their kids do whatever they feel like, or even worse, neglecting and abusing them.

One thing is for sure, there are a number of truly toxic behaviors that imprint on our kids and deeply, profoundly impact their life growing up.

These are habits and actions that you should be avoiding at all costs. Some are physical, some psychological, and some are social.

If you know someone who's recently become a parent or is about to be, be sure to share this article with them to help them be the best parents they can be.

1. Not Respecting Boundaries

It's important for parents to think about the boundaries they've set for their children.

When I was young, my parents established some very important boundaries.

Stay out of the parents bedroom. Stay out of mom's office. Stay out of dad's man cave.

There were good reasons for those rules! You're adults, you own things like porno mags and marital aids. You don't want kids getting into that!

But kids also have things they don't want you to get into too. You can't expect kids to feel like respected individuals if you also don't honor their personal space and their boundaries too.

When your kids get older into their teen years, you should not be snooping.

They don't go through your underwear drawer, you shouldn't go through theirs either.

They're old enough that simply talking to them about worries you might have are good enough. Use your words. Don't be intrusive.

2. Failing To Provide Affirmation and Security

A lot of parents, stereotypical macho dad types especially, think that punishment is king.

It takes tough love to shape and sculpt especially young boys into strong, capable young men.

But tough love isn't how you make sure your kids can take care of themselves. Teaching them to take care of themselves is how you teach them to take care of themselves.

Simple, right? By punishing your children over every little thing, you cripple their ability to be strong in the face of life's challenges, because any sign of failure will be met with swift...something.

Not punishment, but...something. Disappointment. Frustration. Anger. Withholding.

We should be teaching our kids about the world as an adult.

When you're an adult and you fail at something, you don't have some authority figure that takes away your gameboy until you do better.

You try harder to do better, and that comes from within.

3. Being Overly Critical

We all have dreams and goals that we don't achieve.

Maybe you wanted to be a football star but you tore your ACL in high school and all that went out the window.

Maybe you were almost the math league champ but didn't quite make it. One thing is for sure: you should not be projecting your failures onto your children.

You can't force your kids to be something that you wish you were. When you do that, you crush their self esteem.

When you project what you want for your kids onto them without letting them choose, and when you level unrealistic expectations, you don't make them better or stronger.

You make them weaker and less likely to be empowered with the tools to take on the challenges of their adult lives.

4. Not Following Through

Parents want to be their kids' best friends. But that's not what kids want.

You don't want to unintentionally raise a terrible adult, and one of the ways you avoid that is by setting rules and actually following through with them.

If you're a new parent, it's good to experiment a little; to see what works and what doesn't.

But at some point you have to see what guidelines and rules work and actually follow through on them. I get it. No parent wants to punish their kids.

No parent wants to tell their kids what's what and see those tears well up. But you need to be able to not manipulate but adjust the mindset of your kids through these guidelines.

You don't want to crush bad habits but develop and incentivize good habits.

5. Not Offering Space

As your kids get older, they need more space from you. This is an important part of growing up.

At some point, you have to stop telling them what to do and you have to stop doing important things for them.

You can't do their homework. You can't write their college entrance essay.

At some point, you need to look at your kids and say, "figure it out. I'll help if you need me too." But even then, make sure that you're not doing anything of the figuring out for them.

Be ready to let your "baby" go when they know they need to figure things out on their own.

Parents who deeply love their kids find it hard to let go the part of their life where mommy and daddy are crucial for every little thing.

But to impose yourself long after that kind of parenting is needed is wrong.

6. Serving Your Kids

You should have a strong sense by now that the right form of parenting is somewhere in the middle of both extremes.

You don't want to throw your kids to the wolves but you also don't want to serve them. When your kids are old enough to learn to cook, teach them to cook.

When your kids are old enough to do laundry, have them do laundry. When your kids are old enough to drive, for God's sake, teach them to drive.

It is important that you don't pamper and serve your kids forever. They need to learn vital skills to maintain themselves as adults.

One of the things I find myself bemoaning the most is how much skill has been lost between my grandparents and me.

There are a lot of skills they had that I just didn't have instilled in me. It's important to give your kids the knowledge that you were given, and pampering them won't teach them anything good.

7. Threatening and Intimidating Your Kids

It's frustrating dealing with the little things with your kids.

They often become afraid and unsure at things that are simple and second nature for you.

They don't always succeed at self control which can be endlessly difficult for a parent simple trying to parent the right way. But what you absolutely can't do is level threats.

"If you don't _____ then _____." "If you ever ____, this is what's going to happen to you."

Under this kind of authority, you've completely destroyed your child's confidence in you.

They won't feel like they can come to you for help because a threat has been leveled.

How can you really talk to a person candidly and honestly about something you're going through if you feel like the result is going to be a punishment of some kind?

8. Helicoptering

The millennial generation will tell horror stories of helicopter parenting.

Check out any reddit thread about helicopter parents and you'll see the carnage they leave behind in the form of adults who don't know up from down and left from right.

When you have a baby, you have to do everything for it. You have to do everything in your power to care for it and make sure it survives.

But you have to let some of that go as time goes by.

You have to honor their mistakes and appreciate their successes and let them grow into independent people.

If you don't, you've raised an adult who doesn't have the skills necessary to succeed on their own.

9. Not Listening

I'll let you in on a secret: kids aren't stupid.

They can read sarcasm and tell when you're condescending and not listening to them because you think they're just some dumb kid.

Parents: you need to listen to your kids. It's hard to find value in the babble they sometimes send off into the world through their faces but it doesn't matter.

When you listen to your kids, and I mean really listen, it tells them that they're unique individuals who have something to offer this world that we're living in.

True, a 4 year old probably won't ever have something particularly compelling to say to you, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't show them that what they say is important, because it actually is.

Stuff that seems mundane to you might be absolutely mind blowing to them.

If a child tells you that she saw a brown dog that day, hear what they're saying. That may be a first for them.

They want to talk about the incredible experiences they have the same way you do. Listen to your kids.

10. Being A Lazy Parent

For some parents, kids come into the picture and it's so overwhelming that they just kind of hit cruise control and zone out.

Lots of frozen TV dinners and movies in the car.

It's easy to park a kid in front of the TV for 6 hours and then just sit around and be lazy, but being a parent takes work.

It's the hardest job you can possible have. But you have to actually teach your children things. You have to spend time with them, cook with them, and instill all these healthy habits.

It's hard to get your kid to eat well, but you have to. It's hard to get your kid to brush their teeth and floss, but you have to.

It's hard to teach your kid to manage their own homework, to drive a car, to get a job, but all of these things are so fundamentally important that skipping just one can cripple your child for life.

Don't be a lazy parent.

11. Being Friends With Your Child

Not long ago, I was reading about how many kids entering college, when asked about their relationship with their parents, they said their parents were their "best friends."

This is not the kind of relationship that any child should have with their parents until much, much later in life.

A 17-19 year old fledgling of the house should not see their parents as friends but as parents.

You are your child's world to give them guidance, structure, and rules. When our kids, in their volatile teen years, lash out at you for your rigidity, it is not a sign to let up.

It's also not a sign to clamp down. It is a sign you're doing the right thing. You're teaching them, and sometimes these lessons are hard to learn. Your kids should not view you as a friend, but as a parent.

Pick A Stone And Discover What It Reveals About You

Take a moment to look at the six stones you see above. Without thinking too hard about it, pick your favorite.

Avoid picking you favorite color, go with the one you are drawn to the most in this very moment.

Be confident, don't second guess your decision!

This is what it means:

Stone #1

The first stone is Opalite.

Opalite is subtle yet highly energetic. It is ideal for meditation. Opalite improves communication on all levels, especially the spiritual.

You want only freedom in life from the hustle and bustle of civilization.

You feel the need to disconnect and find peace somewhere where your senses and inner thoughts rein supreme.

If you chose this stone, it indicates that you have weathered the storms and you are now much stronger and wiser for the experience.

You do wear the scars however but this is something that doesn't need to be permanent.

Like the plaque on the stone, it can be washed off.

You are a sensitive and gentle being and protection has been necessary for you and is necessary for you.

Stone #2

The second stone is Malachite.

Malachite personifies the deep healing green of nature and represents the innate beauty of flowers, trees, roots and plants.

It is a stone of transformation, assisting one in changing situations and providing for spiritual growth

It reveals that major life changes are on the horizon for you.

Many changes will be spiritual in nature.

You may also experience changes in your love life.

This is a good time to consider the choices you've been making in the grand scheme of life.

You find it difficult to be around negative people, and you need to limit your time with those who are negative to protect your own delicate nature.

be careful that you don't spread yourself too thin and become resentful and hard from giving too much to people.

Learn to say 'No' once in a while.

This does not mean for you to stop sending out that beautiful ray of light to people, just be aware of your own needs and set boundaries for yourself.

You're important too and need to be aware that receiving is just as important as giving - balance is the key.

Stone #3

The third stone is a Sunstone.

Sunstone is an abundance stone. It encourages independence and originality, is inspirational in revealing talents, and attracts fame and unexpected prosperity.

It is an excellent "good luck" crystal for competitions.

If you felt attracted to it, it tells us that you're an optimist through and through.

The future for you is bright as can be.

Be sure to spend lots of time absorbing the healing warmth of the sun as you move forward.

Don't lose your sunny disposition!

You like everything to be just right in your world, simple, balanced or otherwise you tend to suffer from stress or worry.

You would benefit from structure, routine, organization, writing to-do lists.

But know that things don't have to be perfect all the time. Learn to go with the flow of life.

Stone #4

The fourth stone is a Mahogany Obsidian stone.

Obsidian is a grounding stone but also contains a fiery element.

It is useful for developing the strength needed to stand on your own convictions against any enemy

If drawn to this stone, your subconscious is trying to say that it's time to break out of old habits and routines and create a new life.

Remember how lucky you are and how grateful you are of everything and don't let jealousy creep into your mind.

You strive for perfection which leads to disappointment when you feel you don't measure up.

Know that you are good enough, whether you believe it or not.

Perhaps look at striving for excellence instead of perfection as excellence is more easily attainable and won't leave you feeling you're not good enough.

Stone #5

The fifth stone is called Howlite.

Howlite is a great tool to have during meditation because it can help you focus your mind. It can promote serenity of mind and remove any kind of distracting thought.

It will help you get rid of your stress and anxiety because Howlite is also a powerful calming stone.

If you're attracted to this stone, keep your mind open for messages from the "other side."

These messages may come from other worldly beings or passed relatives and loved ones.

Keep a dream journal and be aware of visions or synchronicity.

If you chose this stone, it indicates that it's time to let go of something that no longer serves you.

You feel the leopard can't change its spots, but I beg to differ.

You can change if you really set your mind to it. It's a choice that only you can make - no one can make it for you.

Even if you feel that life has thrown you a curve ball and this is your lot in life, don't give your power to someone else.

When you allow others to take the reigns of your life, you give them the power to create your life.

Instead, take the reigns and create the life you want.

Stone #6

The final stone is Dalmatian Jasper.

Dalmatian Jasper helps to harmonize the emotions and assists in maintaining composure, even under the most difficult circumstances.

Dalmatian Jasper is a wonderful piece to use when you want to review and reflect on past actions and decisions, so if a similar situation has presented itself, you will be prepared to make a more informed choice.

This stone indicates that you're fun loving and need to keep play alive in your life.

Seek out new adventures and make new friends. Having fun will win the day for you.

You need to shed some limited beliefs based on childhood experiences.

You need to let go of the past hurts and forgive so you can move on, really creating the life you deserve.

You need to speak up or have been speaking up but instead of it coming from a place of love, the words have come from a place of hurt, anger, sadness, frustration.

Which stone did you choose? Did it make you think and is it accurate to where you are right now in life? Please leave a comment below and SHARE this article with your family and friends on Facebook.

5 Little Known Secrets To Higher Consciousness

Imagine a version of you where your emotional reactions were less reckless and more reasoned.

Picture dramatically increasing traits like focus, presence, and creativity.

We all know people who seem to have an elevated frame of mind- call it a "higher consciousness"- where they are somehow less triggered by life's struggles than the rest of us.

What are the secrets to their mindset?

You may think you know them already- good sleep, meditation, yoga, diet, exercise, etc.- and those are all important, but…

There are practices people swear by that rarely get mentioned when discussing tips to higher consciousness.

Here's 5 tips you might not know much about that can have stunning effects on your happiness, focus, clarity, and emotional self-control:

1. Binaural Beats

If you're unfamiliar with binaural beats, clear your preconceptions: this isn't some trendy music genre, and they're not "beats" in the way you're probably thinking.

In 1839, physicist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove discovered that when signals of two different frequencies are presented separately (such as one to each ear by headphone) the brain compensates for the difference by creating a 3rd "binaural" beat at 4.5 beats per second.

Research shows to be the beat frequency common in a multitude of ancient tribal music rituals, and induces a low Theta brainwave state, which in turn causes extremely therapeutic benefits.

2. Nootropics

In case you missed it, the science of mental nutrition has gotten extremely advanced in the last 5 years.

Foods, minerals, vitamins, adaptogenic herbs and nutraceuticals that can improve things like focus, memory, mental energy, and mood are being discovered, combined, and formulated into new supplements that fall into a category called "Nootropics".

These supplement formulations can support the neural pathways of your brain and help you perform at your optimal level.

There are several new companies in the space however, the "best in class" nootropic supplement is a blend called Qualia by a startup biotech company out of San Diego called Neurohacker Collective.

They are pushing the cutting edge of neuropharmacology and have a very powerful team of neuroscientists and doctors that researching and developing the product.

The team here are Higher Perspective connected with the Neurohacker Collective so we could offer our readers a 10% discount on single orders and 15% on subscriptions.

Try Qualia right here to experience what your mind feels like when you pamper it with cutting-edge nutrition.

3. Anthropologic Travel

Everyone knows how restorative a vacation can be. But drinking margaritas under a palm tree doesn't exactly expand your consciousness in a lasting way.

To really get the most out of a trip, prioritize the anthropologic value of travel.

Schedule a trip that doesn't only immerse you in relaxation, but also immerses you in an exotic culture which thinks, communicates, and expresses differently than your own.

Forget photo-ops or tourist spots. Instead, try to deeply familiarize yourself with other ways of being by engaging with different people living very different lives.

When you experience the diversity of goals and purposes of cultures around you, many of the things which cause you stress are revealed as shallow concerns.

And many of the keys to happiness will be revealed to you in ways you've never considered.

4. The Bicameral Model

In 1976, psychologist Julian Jaynes published The Origins Of Consciousness in the Breakdown Of The Bicameral Mind.

It's a highly controversial book detailing the evolution of human consciousness.

Scholars argue over its importance and insights, but a key takeaway that many find helpful are known as the three stages of "paramount orientation".

The most basic and least evolved stage is obedience. This means blindly believing and doing what you're told by authority figures.

The next step up in evolved consciousness is being right. A lot of us struggle at this level.

This is where we get into damaging conflicts with loved ones, hurting them and our own reputations due to disagreements over ultimately petty issues.

Finally, the most evolved stage is producing desirable results.

This is where your ego is willing to concede petty conflicts (whether you were right or not) in order to keep the main goals of your life (maintaining loving relationships, large career and personal missions, etc.) on track.

Practice behavior that prioritizes the shortlist of what you hold dear in life.

5. Environmental Psychology

Everyone has experienced how mentally rejuvenating a stroll down the beach or a hike through the forest can be. But those activities are such a small percentage of your life.

The most important environmental psychology is wherever you spend the most time, meaning your home and immediate neighborhood.

Caring about the interior design of your home should matter to you whether you enjoy interior design or not.

Little things, like getting rid of clutter, soothing wall artwork, or gentle lighting, can play an enormous role in your mental wellbeing.

If you have a yard, what do you picture being there that would bring you daily peace?

If you're debating where to rent or own, consider the aesthetics of the block you live on, beyond just your home itself, because it's going to inform your mood for good or bad every time you walk out your door.

Click right here for a beautifully illustrated guide that helps give detailed tips on a balanced approach for mental and emotional wellbeing.

Evolve your mindset with these tips, and link this article to friends/family who may benefit from it!
