5 Simple Ways Conquer Your Fears And Become Unstoppable

Fears can be debilitating. They can prevent us from fully living our lives, experiencing things that we want to, and having a good time of it all. But there are ways we can take our fears and turn them into strengths. How?

1. Meditate on your fears.

I don't necessarily mean sit in a quiet place with your eyes closed. Meditation comes in a lot of different shapes and sizes. When it comes to conquering my fears, I usually spend time walking through nature. Not hiking like I have to get to the end of the trail as fast as I can, but more sauntering. Really feeling the fresh air, seeing and smelling the flowers, observing plants and animals and insects at work. It helps put it all into perspective - including your fears. It helps you let go.

2. Take on a major challenge.

One you aren't afraid of. Want to run a 5k? Better start training for it now. Want to learn to knit? Pick up the needles and yarn. Want to write a book? You'd better start typing! By accepting bigger challenges that we aren't necessarily afraid of, we prove to ourselves that we can go big, that we can be bold, and that there are few things we can't overcome.

3. Nourish your mind and body.

It's a two-pronged approach. First, nourish your mind. Make it a point to learn something new every day. Read for education and read for pleasure. Experience the philosophies of others. Go to meetups of people interested in the same things as you. Keep your mind healthy and well fed.

Second, nourish your body. Eat good foods, get physical activity - be a full person. It's hard to conquer your fears when your body is broken.

4. Start making changes in your life.

They can be smaller changes, like making sure you vacuum every day or having a cup of coffee in the park each morning. They can also be bigger changes, like taking on an exercise program or signing up for a class you've been wanting to take. Either way, pushing yourself outside of your normal bubble can do much to prove to you your ability to take on nearly anything.

5. Affirmations.

Yeah, it's kind of like that. Be sure to tell yourself how smart and strong you are. Remind yourself with words out loud that you can conquer your fears. Before too long, you'll be living and breathing that truth.
