When presented with the opportunity to do good, most of us like to think we'd take that opportunity in a heartbeat, but rarely do we ever get to prove it. One U.K. couple got to do just that after winning a sizable lottery draw that allowed them to fulfill one of their lifelong dreams.

Kathleen and Mark Reece were the lucky winners of a £100,000 (roughly $126,000 USD) Euromillions draw that took place this past August, a victory they never thought they'd achieve.

"Every Friday Mark comes home from work with a EuroMillions ticket, and I always moan at him," Kathleen said in an interview.

She also admitted that she never considered herself or Mark particularly lucky, making their win all the more spectacular. "We've won a few pounds over the years, but I’ve never seen myself as a lucky person."

That all changed one Sunday when they were out running errands. Mark went to the store, and Kathleen checked on the tickets.

"I scanned the first one and nothing. Then I scanned the second and it asked me to claim. I showed it to my daughter. I said it was a practical joke but she's a maths teacher so was easily able to check the amount and check the numbers online."

They double-checked the numbers, making sure their ticket matched the winning pull. "We called out the winning numbers to each other and the amount from the website."

"As the realization of what this meant hit us we sat there in disbelief. We were winners."

When Mark came home, Kathleen was already on the phone with The National Lottery. He waited in anticipatory silence as she confirmed their winnings.

"He looked at me in disbelief so I put the phone on speaker and the lady confirmed she was from The National Lottery, and we'd won £100,770.14."

Not only were their odds and their winnings incredible, but so is what they plan on doing with that money, a selfless act that will help local children.

The couple plan on converting their garage into extra bedrooms so they can foster children.

"I've always wanted to foster children. Mark and I discussed it many years ago and then we had our own," Kathleen said. "My three kids will be leaving home soon and I have too much love to give. I've always wanted to foster, however having enough space has always been an issue."

The two are beyond excited to open their home to children in need. "Thanks to the win it'll no longer be a problem. I’m so happy we can finally fulfill our dream."

There are so many selfish and frivolous ways someone could spend that kind of money, and who could blame them! Being able to buy something nice that you've always wanted is a joy on its own.

However, deciding to use that money to make the world a better and safer place is amazing and admirable. Plenty of children will have the Reece family to thank for giving them a stable home life, even a temporary one so that they can grow into and thrive as happy, healthy adults.
