Man Started A ‘Rent A Daddy’ Service For $30/Hour To Help Single Moms
Being a single parent is hard, and extremely time-consuming. If only there were a service for single parents to rent a partner for a day... Oh wait. It DOES exist. Jake James from New South Wales, Australia, recently posted about the "Rent A Daddy" service he came up with.
For a fee of $30 an hour, Jake will be your family's hunky stand-in baby daddy and do all things dad, including teaching your kids life lessons. His post went viral on Facebook, and even though most people found it hilarious, some moms were genuinely interested.
Parenting By Yourself Is Hard
Single parents have to raise kids on their own and also make sure they maintain their homes, as well as their own personal life and health.
Many single parents also have jobs on top of raising kids so they can pay their bills.
It Can Be Nice To Have A Second Set Of Hands
If you want some alone time away from your kid(s), or if you want a break from picking them up from school or changing diapers, having a partner is ideal because you can split up the duties.
With this idea in mind, Jake James decided to create a service to help all the single moms out there.
Meet Jake James
James came up with a pretty funny, but not so ridiculous, idea that may help him earn a few extra dollars while also helping single moms out there.
Jake, who is a trucker, shared via Facebook in March of 2020 that he wanted to "get a break" from his work. So, he decided to pursue a side hustle.
"Rent A Daddy"
Jake decided to create a "Rent a Daddy" ad that he posted on Facebook.
He starts off the ad by asking: "Has your baby daddy been acting up? Tired of him playing games? Does he put (illegal substances) and his mates before his kids? Get yourself a rent a daddy!"
It Costs $30 Per Hour
For a low fee of $30 per hour, moms in Australia can rent James to be their very own stand-in baby daddy.
In the ad, Jake explains that he will hang out with the kids, teach them valuable lessons, do daycare pick-ups and drop-offs, and even attend sports events.
Some Services Require An Extra Fee
James explains in the ad that he will do family parties and functions, family selfies, and even Facebook status updates for an extra fee.
So, if you were looking to pretend that you have a kid-loving boyfriend and make some people jealous, this service could be for you.
People Couldn't Help But Laugh
The post made its way all over the internet. Mostly because people found it hilarious.
These moms clearly thought the service was just too funny, and many tagged their friends as a joke. A few kid-less women even wanted to rent him (for other reasons...).
Others Praised Jake For What He Was Doing
All jokes aside, some people thought that the man created the service with genuinely good intentions. So, lots of people praised him in the comments.
Having a consistent father figure who is a good role model is something that many kids do not have the luxury of.
Is It Too Expensive?
Similar to what this woman said, some people in the comments thought that $30 an hour was just too much to charge single moms.
Also, just so you know, sliding scale fees are prices for products or services that are based on a customer's financial state/ability to pay.
Not Everyone Liked The Idea...
That being said, some people thought that the service was not created with good intentions, because what will happen when a mom can't pay one week?
Users like this one were concerned about how this will impact the kids.
One Person Even Made A Logo
Jake posted this image in September, with the caption: "Big shout out to Jim for jumping on board and helping my dream come true."
Although it seems like the business was probably just a joke, plenty of people were genuinely willing to take him up on his offer.
There's Definitely A Market For This Service
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, "Approximately 80.4% of single parents are mothers, and 19.6% of single parents (approximately 1 in 5) are fathers." (2015)
So, there are tons of single moms out there who may need help with their kids—and would truly consider a "Rent A Daddy" service (maybe for a cheaper price, though).
What Do You Think?
What do you think about this service? Even though some people found it controversial, others just had a solid laugh.
Personally, I got a kick out of it, but I'm not sure if his income from the service will be enough for him to quit trucking just yet.
