10 Things People With Anxiety Are Sick Of Hearing

Suffering from anxiety is no easy task. Each day, millions of people all over the world are crippled by anxiety and find it difficult to do some of the easiest tasks. What doesn't help is the bizarrely off-base pop psychological platitudes people spout off about anxiety, like:

"Just don't think about it."

Oh if only it were that easy...

"You just enjoy feeling like crap."

Yet another painfully ignorant remark. People with anxiety aren't bringing it upon themselves for attention.

"It must be horrible being you."

This definitely doesn't help.

"You're so dramatic."

No, they aren't.

"You're being ridiculous."

No, they aren't.

"Get over yourself."

Being anxious isn't being overly into yourself. Anxious people can be pretty severely inwardly focused, but they don't mean it.

"Stop being so negative!"

People with anxiety aren't inherently negative people. Plus, it's not like you can just take three deep breaths and reason with yourself to not be so gosh darn anxious.

"What do you have to worry about?"

Sometimes everything.

"You just need to try harder."

Try harder at what, exactly?

"Everyone feels that way sometimes."

It's true, everyone does feel anxious sometimes, but that doesn't mean what people with anxiety experience is any less impactful in their day to day life. Try not to trivialize what they're going through.
