A Childhood Of Loneliness

Marilyn was born to a father and two half siblings she didn't even know about till she was 12 years old. Her mother was already separated when she was born and didn't have the mental or financial capacity to raise her by herself. She was actually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Instead, Marilyn was passed around between orphanages, foster family, family members, and friends of her mothers. This made her become very shy and anxious.

When she was 17 years old, Marilyn was staying with a couple who was friends with her mother. However, due to their job they had to be relocated. Because Marilyn was still a minor, California's state law wouldn't allow her to go with them.
The only solution she could think of was to marry her 21-year-old neighbor and friend, James Dougherty. James wasn't very supportive of Marilyn having a career in show business. As soon as she signed her first modeling contract, he also left her.

Marlyn wasn't finding success at first, and the assistant director of fox century news even told her she would never be anything more than a secretary. But Marilyn was motivated to focus on her career instead of her relationships so she could support herself and turn her life around. She felt especially grateful for her agent and mentor Johnny Hyde, who got her a seven-year contract in the business. Just as things were looking up, he died of a heart attack.
Marilyn didn't know how to cope. She needed someone to support her through her anxiety and stage fright. With no one there to support her, Marilyn turned to substances and drinking. This was the only way she could think to cover up her low self-esteem and perfectionism, but it gave her a reputation as a difficult actress.

Monroe was not only dealing with mental health issues but she was also physically sick. Her studio heads knew that she hada case of sinusitis and needed bed rest and medical attention, but they would instead spread rumors that she was "faking it" so that they wouldn't go over budget.
They even went as far as firing her while she was sick and suing her for $750,000 in damages.

Marilyn found herself quickly reduced to nothing more than a beauty icon but she was determined to break out of it and be noticed for her talents. She would have long battles with her production company over the movies she was in and even tried to start her own company, Marilyn Monroe Productions.
But, the press made fun of her efforts. Marilyn had dreams of being a successful woman and a mother and had much more to give beyond her beauty. Sadly, because of her lifelong battle with endometriosis, she suffered at least four miscarriages.

Marlyn has been prescribed all sorts of painkillers and sedatives for her many physical and mental illnesses. People close to her said her bedside table was covered in prescription bottles. Because of her many social events, she was also drinking a lot of champagne. Add in her fourth divorce and veentually she broke.
Marlyn finally admitted herself into the Payne Whitney psychiatric ward in New York, thinking they would help her with her insomnia and let her rest. Instead, they locked her in a padded room and wouldn't let her leave until her ex, Joe DiMaggio, broke her out.

Marilyn Monroe was found dead by her housekeeper on August 5, 1962. The reports say it was an overdose, probably on purpose.
But, not everyone agrees. Some say she was killed by the president, the mafia, the FBI, or even her exes or the psyhitriast. The witnesses contradict each other so no one really knows. It turns out that no amount of fame, success, beauty, or wealth could save Marilyn after all.
