It’s a sad fact that most of the time, when we pass homeless people, we see them as useless non-contributors that need to be locked up or shuffled out of sight. We talk about homelessness all too often without actually putting a face to it. We don’t know the personal struggles and decisions of the homeless in our community. What we know is that they’re homeless, and that’s about all you can find out without asking.
A recent viral video of a homeless man in Sarasota, Florida, playing the piano has received millions of views and may be changing the world’s view on homelessness a bit.
Speaking to local ABC media, Donald Gould said that he was really just trying to “make a couple dollars and get tips, I didn’t expect it to jump out to this.”
“I might not do the whole song complete as it was recorded originally, but I know enough to touch people out here -‘cause I’ve touched a lot of people, apparently,” Gould told reporters.
