Familial Connection

The bond between a pair or group of close siblings is often unmatched. There's a strength in a connection that was forged throughout one's childhood, having experienced family trials and tribulations at each others' sides and being entirely in each other's business as there was simply no other option.

Sure, the relationship can be a little antagonistic at times, but it's from a place of love. Those with siblings know that picking on each other comes with the territory.

The type of siblings that really take the cake regarding close bonds, though, is twins—especially identical twins. Growing up with a visual copy of yourself that you share absolutely everything with is a unique experience that not many get to know. Some love it, some hate it, while some...really love it.

Some pursue life together even after becoming adults, choosing to remain in their comfort zone and stand beside the person they've been with since birth. Some even call their twin their 'soulmate'.

Well...that might just be these two, actually.

Very Identical Twins

Anna and Lucy DeCinque of Perth, Australia are considered among the world's most identical twins, and that's not just by chance.

The two go out of their way to do everything the exact same. They dress the same, they talk the same, and despite already being identical twins, they've spent almost $250,000 on cosmetic procedures to look even more similar to one another. Everything they do, they do together.

This includes sharing a boyfriend, as well as a TV show.

The DeCinque twins are one of the stars of the TLC show Extreme Sisters, which showcases the lives of five sets of siblings around the world.

Thanks to the show, they've shown off just how detailed they are about their matching lifestyles. They follow the same diet and exercise routine, eating and working out the exact same amount, even weighing out their food to ensure it. Their schedules match to a T, and in every photo, you'll see them mirroring poses or holding hands.

Now in recent episodes of the show, they've discussed starting the journey toward motherhood.

Together, of course. They want simultaneous pregnancies.

It was mentioned earlier that they share a single boyfriend, Ben Byrnes, who's been with them since 2011. They're hoping that he can get them both pregnant at the exact same time.

If you're wondering what that would mean for their kids, you'd be right to. Due to sharing the same dad and having mothers who are sisters, if they do have children at the same time, those children will be both half-siblings and first cousins.

They also plan on raising the two children in the same household, sharing mothering duties.

Not everyone is on board with their plan, namely their mother. In an episode of Extreme Sisters, she expresses her worry alongside a family friend, saying a baby "couldn't have two moms."

"If Lucy had a baby, Lucy is the mother; if you had a baby, you're the mother," she declared.

Anna disagreed. "We're both its mothers," she insisted. She described how they would take care of everything side-by-side, including waking up if a baby is crying in the night. "We would get up together, no matter what; Anna wouldn't get up by herself," said Lucy.

Never, Ever Apart

The "most identical twins" (a name they gave to themselves), are never, ever apart. This even extends to bathing!

"We're not going to have a shower [alone] and the other one look after the baby. That’s not going to work. Because we have to do things identical," Anna explained.

To which Lucy added, "We're just never apart, that will never happen."

According to an interview with the New York Post in 2021, this way of thinking has been a constant in their lives, as Lucy told them that they "think of each other as one person."

Anna then continued, saying, "When [Lucy] goes to the toilet, I come with her; when she has a shower, I come with her. You name it and we do it. We're never apart. I don’t think we’d function without each other. We have separation anxiety. We’re bound to each other."

So Is Their Boyfriend

What's the deal with him, anyway?

According to that same interview, the three met on Facebook through a mutual friend of theirs. They apparently hit it off from the start.

"The first night we met [Ben], we both kissed him," said Anna. "It was great from the start. We just hit it off straight away. It's so much easier for us to share a boyfriend. I don’t mind that he comes over to kiss Lucy, because then he’s going to kiss me. He treats us equally. He knows that whatever he does to one twin, he does to the other.”

They had tried dating other people in the past, but it never worked out as other partners wanted to separate them. Ben sees their connection and enjoys dating the two of them together.

"Ben understands our bond and doesn't judge us," Anna continued. "That's how it’s been from Day 1. There’s never been any jealousy. I don’t know how we had separate boyfriends. People can judge us how they like—this is how it works for us."

The sisters have expressed wishes to marry Ben, but polyamorous marriage isn't legal in Australia, so they've kept it to a committed partnership. They did get engaged last year, though.

"If you don't accept it, you won’t be in our life," said Lucy. “Anyone that meets us just knows that we want to live life as one person. [We] get internet trolls and haters online. People can have their opinions — but at the end of the day, we’re not hurting anyone. I am proud of this beautiful relationship.”

So, How's The Pregnancy Journey Going?

They're still on the fertility journey together, neither having conceived, but not for lack of trying. They also have no issues opening up about the details on broadcast television.

In an episode of Extreme Sisters, the two discuss details about their ovulation, believing they're ovulating at the same time.

"We learnt from the internet that when your temperature goes up, you're ovulating," Lucy had said in the episode. The two then take their temperatures and are immediately filled with glee.

"We're the three degrees up! We are ovulating, we're exactly the same."

In The Meantime...

Seeing as neither are pregnant yet—and even if they were, they're still nine months away from actually having a baby—they've decided to test out their parenting skills on...dolls.

Their mother purchased them identical (of course) baby dolls that they've begun carrying around with them to see how they'd cut it as moms.

"We've decided we want kids now," Anna and Lucy said. “We’ve had some trouble trying to get pregnant, so this [the baby dolls] is the next best thing."

Tricky Business

Obviously, the dolls are dressed the exact same, treated the same way at the same time, and cared for by both sisters.

It's holding them over until pregnancy ensues, a task that Ben is managing.

"It's definitely going to be a challenge to get them both pregnant at the same time," he said on the show, "It's definitely a lot of pressure for one guy. It's a matter of multi-tasking, I guess."

It certainly is a lot of pressure, seeing as Lucy had previously said, "I'm having a heart attack because I'm thinking Anna could be pregnant and I'm not. We'd prefer both of us to be pregnant than one."

Flies On The Wall

All that's left for us onlookers to do is wait and see what happens, though no one is anticipating results as much as the DeCinque twins.

To say that their chosen lifestyle is different is an understatement. There's no one else quite like these two, and their eccentricities make them quite the spectacle, but even then it's important that we remember not to judge. Not in an overly mean fashion, anyway.

Their way of life isn't hurting anybody, and they're also likely perfectly aware of how strange it is. Chasing their desires like this even when it's seen as bizarre is honestly commendable.

So here's wishing their family well, and should they have children, may they both have healthy pregnancies! If it does happen, it'll certainly make for good TV.
