Woman Brings Home ‘Cursed’ Painting, Says It Sparked ‘Most Terrifying Experience’ Of Her Life

A Clear Warning
A thrift shop in the U.K. has had quite the buzz around them after an item they stocked went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The shop had a rather simple painted portrait of a young girl in their front display window. What had people in a stir the first time, causing the image to go viral online, was the note attached to it.
"She's back!!! Sold twice and returned twice! Are you brave enough?" the note read. Other photos have circulated wherein it bears a different note that reads, "Possibly cursed?"
One Wrong Purchase
Despite the warnings, one woman fell for the painting and brought it home for around $25 USD.
This woman is Zoe Elliot-Brown, who now seems to regret her purchase greatly. She claims the painting is deeply haunted and has not only frightened her, but also "transfixed" her mother, Jayne, in a way she can't explain.
The shop claims it doesn't know the origins of the painting, just remember that a man dropped it off alongside some old frames, nothing out of the ordinary.
No Time To Waste
Zoe's experiences, however, have been far from normal.
She appeared on ITV to tell her story, originally saying, "Another lady came in and noted how creepy it looked, and then she came back and bought it, and then she brought it back a couple of days later saying that it had ruined her life. And then I bought it, good move."
She brought it home and hung it up in her living room. The problems started almost immediately.
A Change In The Atmosphere
She said that Jayne's health took a terrible turn almost as soon as the painting was brought home. Her mom reported feeling shaky, experiencing hot flashes but also deep chills, and one day, she even fainted in their bathroom.
Weirder still is that her mom appears to be completely in love with the painting. Zoe said that she's woken up to find her mom caressing the cheeks of the girl in the frame, and she put up a lot of resistance against the idea of ever getting rid of it, often referring to it as if it were a person.
Come On In
The family's dog was "instantly growling" at the painting and "wouldn't go anywhere near it," according to Zoe.
Things then took a very spooky turn. Zoe started hearing phantom knocking at her door, being so sure she heard it only to check and see no one was there, all in the middle of the night.
The scariest event of all took place when she and her partner were out for a walk during a storm one night.
Beyond Belief
Out of nowhere, the two say a "big black figure" standing in front of them. "He grabbed me, and we began running back the way we had come," Zoe said, confirming her partner also saw the ghostly apparition. “He was screaming that it was right behind him.”
She says that it was the "most terrifying experience" of her life and is sure that the painting is what caused it, even though the two weren't in the house when it happened.
A High Price
She wanted to rid herself of it, but also didn't want to return it to the store for a third time, so she decided to sell it online. Well, its story had already made the rounds by then, so plenty of people were enamored by this painting's story.
So many, in fact, that it wound up selling for approximately $2,000 on eBay. Zoe split the profits with the thrift store she bought it from, thinking it only fair.
Better Off Somewhere Else
She hopes it will be sent to someone who can rid it of its evil energy. "[I wanted] to get it to someone who actually knows about this stuff and can do something positive with it," she said.
With it shipped off to its new home, there's no telling what will happen next or if the painting's next owner will receive a haunting quite like this one. We may hear about it in the news again if it lives up to its reputation.
