Let's admit it; this year hasn't been easy. From recovering from a pandemic, food supply shortages, skyrocketing gas prices, and increased expenses in general, we've certainly had our ups and downs. The hope is that we learned our lessons and have the tools for a better year next year.

Unfortunately, as the planet takes another 365 days to circle the sun, the year 2023 doesn't look like it will be any easier. Water Scarcity Will Be A Bigger Problem In 2023

We tend to take our running water for granted. We're so used to waking up in the morning, turning on the kitchen sink for a drink of water, then again turning on the shower. But water is a privilege that not everyone has, and that will be even more of a scarcity in 2023. It is predicted that by 2023, almost half of the world's population will be living in areas of high water stress.

This means that many of us will be in areas where water is limited and that long-term use is not unstainable. Yet water is an essential basic need required for drinking, cooking and hygiene. If not addressed, it will lead to conflict and economic and health issues that will quickly spread.

2023 needs to be the year we figure out how to manage and conserve water so that it's available for everyone for a long time to come.

Statistics predict that by 2023, the global population will have grown to 8.5 billion people! Right now, we're sitting at bout 8 billion, half of which live in just seven countries. With more lives, there are more mouths to feed. Yet, the agricultural sector has been facing a lot of challenges that are preventing it from meeting the demand for food.

From wars, price increases, and deforestation to climate change, there are many factors in the way. Food shortages have serious consequences that can lead to malnutrition, poverty, and even more conflict from fighting over it.

The electricity giving your phone or laptop the power to read this article right now puts a lot of pressure on the global demand for energy. However, in 2023, there will be limited energy resources in contrast with increased emissions of greenhouse gasses. There might not be enough energy to meet the increasing global demand.

If this isn't addressed, it will lead to problems much more serious than not being able to watch Netflix. It can have an impact on health issues because of air pollution, economic issues from higher energy costs, and environmental issues. We will need to find a way to reduce energy consumption.

Waste Will Take A Toll On Health

Most of us take our garbage bags to be picked up by the garbage truck and then never have to worry about it again. In 2023, we might have to be more mindful than that as global waste production increases due to high consumption and a bigger population. If we don't, we will have to face increased emissions of pollution and have even fewer resources.

Fast fashion brands, for example, are harmful to people and the planet and could contribute to a climate crisis. Is that worth the discounted prices? If not addressed, the cost of cleaning that waste will be even higher, on top of air and water pollution.

More War And Civil Conflicts

Experts predict that in 2023, the world will still be facing several conflicts and civil wars. Just like we saw this year, these conflicts will be rooted in political, economic, and social issues. They have devastating consequences for those caught in the middle as well as the world at large.

Those involved in conflicts have every capacity to choose peace, calm and mature negotiations to ensure the safety of their people with minimal damage. War is more costly, and as human beings, we can find other options.

Data Privacy Regulation Issues

It is predicted that 65% of the global population will have their personal data protected by privacy regulations in 2023. For example, the United States' first comprehensive consumer data privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), will get a huge update on January 1.

However, there is still a risk for the spread of false information through social media, as well as the exploitation of personal data by scammers. We will have to be careful in how we use the media so that it doesn't define us or dictate how we live. There has to be a balance between our own thoughts and how they re influenced. We can do that by increasing self-awareness and mindfulness.

There has never been more of a need for humanity to stand together. It is predicted that by 2023, they will have to work together to find new ways to meet their needs. This will look like an increase in collaborations between governments, businesses, and NGOs in order to address global issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

But on an individual level, too, we will be reminded of the impact we can have on one another by sharing what we have and being kind and thoughtful of each other. This collaboration can help us set the foundation to make progress.
