5 Behaviors That Ruin Relationships

Good relationships don’t “just happen.” They take a lot of nurturing to make them grow and flourish. When a relationship is new, it’s exciting and wonderful! It’s passionate!

It’s fun! So, what happens that makes it not so wonderful, exciting, passionate and fun? What makes a relationship that is so full of promise in the beginning, fall apart?

Maybe it’s a matter of how you behave in the relationship; how you behave toward your partner. It can’t be that simple, you say? Well it is.

Here are 5 behaviors to avoid if you want to keep your relationship great.

1. Dishonesty

This one’s big and, unfortunately, it happens in relationships a lot. Dishonesty can kill a relationship because it kills trust. Trust is imperative to having a great relationship.

So, if you find that you can’t be honest to your partner, you probably shouldn’t be in that relationship. And, if your partner is constantly lying to you, it’s time to move on.

2. Being a social media addict

Social media is a part of everyday life for a lot of people. Everyone I know has a Facebook account and almost everyone I know has an Instagram and Snapchat account, too.

It’s easy to get caught up in social media.

But, you can’t let it become more important than your relationship. Texting or being on your phone instead of communicating with your partner shows a complete lack of interest.

So, be sure to put the phone down when you’re eating, watching a movie or even just spending a quiet evening at home.

3. Showing disrespect

Looking at your phone (see above), rolling your eyes, and sarcasm are all forms of disrespect. It shows you have little to no regard for your partner’s feelings which, of course, makes them feel hurt.

Remembering to treat your partner the way you would want them to treat you is key to a good relationship.

4. Lack of affection

When relationships are new, you can’t keep your hands off of each other. Sometimes, as time goes by, that changes. Don’t let it.

No, you don’t have to constantly grope each other like two teenagers. Hold hands when you walk together. Give your partner a spontaneous hug.

Kiss them goodbye, hello, good night, good morning. Cuddle on the couch while you watch TV. It doesn’t take a lot of time or effort and can keep your relationship on the right track.

5. Acting like you’re single

Going out without checking in with your partner, hanging out with your friends without ever including your partner, and making plans without consulting your partner shows a complete lack of respect and commitment.

If you want to act like you’re single, be single. If you want to be in a relationship, act like you’re in a relationship! It really is that simple.
