A consistent theme when researching past cases of people who have claimed to experienced some sort of life after death, is that there is some interval of time that passes between when we leave one life and enter the next.

While our bodies physically reside on Earth after we pass, our life force gets released into the universe, and so our consciousness continues to exist.

The five people listed here have glimpsed death, and what life is like after. They describe what they were feeling, what they saw, and what they heard, as they existed in this gap between realities.

At the age of 15, Reddit user, TheDeadManWalks, had started chemotherapy treatments. His colon had gained a sepsis infection, and he began hemorrhaging blood. As he was being taken to the hospital, he start slipping in and out of this reality. He describes his struggle to stay in this world as being similar to not wanting to wake up in the morning:

“So if you want to know what it’s like to be that close to death, it’s tempting. It’s like wanting to hit the snooze button on your alarm at 7am. And maybe you do hit it once or twice but then you remember that you have work or school and that sleep can wait because you’ve still got shit to do.”

Reddit user, Schneidah7, describes his journey into the darkness after dying temporarily due to a motorcycle accident. Everything went dark after hitting a light pole while traveling 50 mph, but he woke up because he was being yelled at by someone:

“When I opened my eyes I saw my brother squatting on the pavement next me to. This was odd because my brother has been dead from an OD for several years. I couldn’t really gather the presence of mind to speak so I just looked at him.”

SonOfDavor was pulled into death after almost drowning in a swimming pool at the age of 5. He now describes a permanent effect on his vision and mind after the experience:

“There was nothing between that moment and throwing up water after he pulled me out of the pool. Though I can remember with absolute clarity how the water made everything shimmer as I was looking up, and sometimes I see that swimming shimmer as I’m walking around outside or if the light is really bright.”

7storiesup experienced death during a surgery on his eye at the age of 7. Because of his asthma, the anesthesia they used made his heart stop. When he woke up, he was demoralized by the experience:

“It also isn’t some magical experience… you’re just sleeping, except sometimes you can wake up from it, like I did, and sometimes you can’t. It is sad though cause it’s nothing… life is smelly and loud and busy and interesting and fun and colorful and death, death is absolute nothingness.”

After being dead from heart failure for an entire 10 minutes, minusthelela describes an empty blackness:

“Eventually the room went black and a feeling of peace came over me, like I was going to sleep. I didn’t see anything good or bad, just emptiness.”
