In 2020, an episode of Family Feud aired that featured members of the Bliefnick family; two parents and their three adult children.
During the episode, host Steve Harvey approaches one of the siblings, Timothy Bliefnick, and asks, "What's your biggest mistake you made at your wedding?"
Bliefnick looks to the side before quickly responding, "Honey, I love you, but said, 'I do.'"
The crowd reacts in a big way, choruses of 'ohh's with some laughter mixed in. Bliefnick then continues, "Not my mistake, I love my wife."
That segment finishes with him saying, "I'm going to get in trouble for that, aren't I?" Harvey nods in agreement and responds, "It's going to be a lot of hell to pay at your house."
This clip has begun to make the rounds again recently as Bliefnick's controversial joke has gained a darker layer to it.
Timothy Bliefnick, now 40, was on trial for the suspected murder of his estranged wife, whom he joked about regretting being married to in the first place.
He was charged in March of 2023 with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion.
His then-estranged wife, 41-year-old Rebecca Bliefnick, was found dead in her home in February. She hadn't arrived to pick her children up from school, so her father went to check on her, finding her dead in her bathroom.
Prosecutors allege that Timothy rode to her home on his bike, used a crowbar to break into Rebecca's bedroom, which was on the second story, and shot her 14 times before leaving.
The two had been separated for two years at this point and were in the process of finalizing a divorce. There was also a custody battle taking place for their children.
Investigations found a number of frightening and incriminating searches in Timothy's internet history just before Rebecca's murder. They included instructional searches for how to open a window using a crowbar, how to make a homemade pistol silencer, and the response times for local police.
One of the witnesses who took the stand was Rebecca's sister, Sarah Reilly.
Reilly shared that Rebecca had feared and worried about her husband harming her in some way, and Rebecca had even shared that fear with her sister.
Rebecca sent Reilly a text in 2021 that read, "If something ever happens to me, make sure the number one person of interest is Tim.
"I am putting this in writing that I'm fearful he will somehow harm me, come after me, or will try to [do] something to me that takes me away from the kids or the kids away from me.
"He already has lied multiple times to paint himself as a victim and me as the perpetrator when it is absolutely the other way around."
This was the same year that Rebecca had filed for an order of protection from Timothy.
Amid all that, the prosecutor also shared that Rebecca had purchased a gun, which was missing from the crime scene.
Timothy didn't testify, and the defense didn't call any evidence. He pled not guilty to all charges, with his attorney claiming none of the present evidence was enough to claim he committed the crime with absolute certainty. She also described the prosecution's case as "dripping with sympathy [...]."
The jury, however, thought otherwise.
Timothy Bleifnick has been found guilty of all charges and has been officially convicted for the murder of his wife, that joke on Family Feud coming back to haunt him and his family forever.
Rebecca was a nurse who began her nursing career in 2019. She even received The DAISY Award for Exceptional Nurses in recognition of the amazing care she gave her patients.
Timothy is scheduled to be sentenced on August 11th, facing life in prison. Rebecca's sister, Sarah, has organized a GoFundMe with the goal of "establishing a scholarship fund in Becky's name as well as to help with family expenses related to Becky’s death and the future care of her boys."
