Honesty Is A Very Expensive Gift

Carl Jung was a famous philosopher and psychologist. He developed and spread the idea of analytic philosophy, terms like archetype, persona, introversion, extroversion and personality complexes were his concepts.

He not only grew the western idea of consciousness but influenced scientific thoughts and philosophy for generations to come.

Tesla was a strong advocate of Jung’s ideas on perception and thought.

Below are some of my favorite quotes, these phrases always make me think and examine myself.

1. The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.

We have become unproductively enamored with our ability to gather vast amounts of information and notice trends.

Technological advances have made these tasks easier and more accurate but this just strengthens the illusions of ‘blanket theories’ and golden rules.

Every situation happening and person living is unlike any other before. There are many similarities but there are distinct and important differences.

2. In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.

Everything is reacting to something. Even if we don’t understand what is happening or see the full effect, it doesn’t change the fact that it is happening.

3. Neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering.

We control our suffering. Knowing this fact doesn’t make it easier to deal with life or tame our internal demons.

We frequently compound our suffering with our perceptions and inabilities: the inability to let go, love, forgive or grow.

4. Mistakes are, after all, the foundations of truth, and if a man does not know what a thing is, it is at least an increase in knowledge if he knows what it is not.

We don’t need all the answers to know what to do or how to act. A person may not know what fire is, but she knows it isn’t cold and isn’t forever.

This is enough to begin interacting with it and learning. Don’t be afraid to name what isn’t known, we can always change or evolve our understandings.

5. The greatest and most important problems of life are all fundamentally insoluble. They can never be solved but only outgrown.

Suffering is inherent to life. You can not ‘solve’ suffering, but you can grow past the fear of it. You can learn about it, appreciate its value and let it become an asset.

WE CONTROL OUR SUFFERING and a problem only remains so if we view it as such.

6. Show me a sane man and I will cure him for you.

This is one of my favorite quotes. The ‘sane’ or ‘ordinary’ people of the world are the scariest in my opinion. They are so dishonest and blinded to themselves that they can not ‘see’ their own perceptions.

A person that is unaware of their internal mechanization and potential control are subject to the whims of others and the random voices in their head.

7. It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.

Perception is everything. We can control our perceptions and in doing so control the world around us. A person who suffers can see the suffering as a punishment or a way to grow.

You can choose the people who hurt you as enemies or you can see them as fellow humans, people who made mistakes.

8. The healthy man does not torture others – generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers.

There is a enough harm being done in the world with out people purposefully damaging others. The healthy person is concerned with being a better individual.

In trying to do so they feel empathetic towards others, and want to help, not hurt.

9. A man who has not passed through the inferno of his passions has never overcome them.

You have to understand something to overcome it.

Dance with your demons and your passions. See them in every kind of light, and seek to understand how they were formed. You will gain strength and insight necessary to succeed and grow.
