Seeing Unhealthy Patterns In Your Family

There comes a point in our lives where we have to decide if this specific family member is worth sticking our necks out for in the end game of our happiness as well as their own happiness.

There also may come a time where you are too torn to decide on what you should do since this person just so happens to be apart of your family.

Unfortunately, what it boils down to is that you are going to have to make a decision that is based around your own happiness.

If you find yourself not enjoying your time with your loved ones and they just can’t seem to pull it together for the sake of their own family or themselves, then you might have to make a pretty critical decision that will change both of your lives together.

It is hard dealing with negative family members, but you must remember these five elements when it comes to dealing with them.

1. Forgiveness

When you are dealing with a negative person in your family, it can prove to be very difficult for you to let things go. However, letting things go not only for just for them but for yourself can prove to be a very freeing sensation.

Forgiving them of all of the negative things they have done in your life and then forgiving yourself for not being able to help them control those things.

You do not have to carry so much weight all by yourself and as much as you would love to help them, there may not be any other way to help at all. So shed the stress of guilt.

2. A Hard Lesson

The unfortunate truth of the matter is that you must take this negative person in your family as a hard lesson to learn from. You can identify the things about them that make them the way they are and try to avoid committing yourself to any of those toxic qualities.

Although they were never able to function fully or well within your families boundaries, you can understand what it takes in order to never become those things that everyone despises.

This is a very hard lesson to learn from as you watch them become a self-destructive person.

3. Communication

Another thing that you should remind yourself when you are dealing with negative family members is that communication is key.

There will be times where your negative family member is coming off as passive aggressive or regularly aggressive, communicate with them as to what is wrong.

See if you can pin point the problem and come up with some kind of resolution. If there is no way for you to speak to this person about their problems, then you have done all that you could for them.

4. Could Just Be A Terrible Time

There will be times in their lives that they are just not having the best of luck lately. Often times when a negative family member suddenly appears, it is because they do not know what they should be doing for themselves and their happiness.

It is important to keep in mind that this person is just a little down on their luck, however, it is important that you still remain true to your own happiness.

Sure they may be having a bad time right now, but that still doesn’t give them the excuse to treat their family with toxic or negative emotions.

5. Negative Jerks

Negative family members are more often than not jerks and it is important to keep this in mind when you are trying to handle a situation.

They will try to bully you, pick on you for any reason they can find, and also belittle you for those reasons. You do not have to stand around for this person while they insult you.

You can try to combat this negative behavior by killing them with kindness, being polite, and never giving into their selfish actions. You are a much better person than they are just by avoiding harsh words and playing their petty little games.

Hopefully this has given you some friendly reminders to keep in your head for the next time you are dealing with a negative person in your family.
