In the summer of 2013, Amy Bleuel lost her father to suicide. In her grief, she got this tattoo to remember him always.

She had a semicolon tattooed to her body because of the symbolism it carried in her depression. “A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.”

Not long after, she began Project Semicolon, a project geared toward helping people struggling with depression.

According to the website, “Project Semicolon is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and love to those who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction and self-injury. [PS] exists to encourage, love and inspire.”
