Humpback whales are one of the world’s largest creatures. They’re huge! The average weight of a full grown adult whale is around 80,000 pounds.
That’s the same weight as 24 adult hippos! However, that won’t stop the enormous mammal from putting on a spectacular air display when it leaps out of the water.
The footage here was shot in the Indian Ocean off the coast of South Africa. It was filmed near Mbotyi by Craig Capehart.
He is a scuba diver and happened to be sitting in an inflatable duck boat when he was graced by the presence of the humpback.
“It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed,” wrote Craig in the caption attached to the video on YouTube.
“Dolphins and even Great White Sharks have been seen flying out of the water, but this is a first for an adult humpback whale!”
