A person's capability and desire for revenge can say a lot about them. Those who never seek revenge are often calm, empathetic, and introspective, while those who so are more passionate, creative, and emotionally driven.

Both possess good qualities, and revenge can only be judged based on the act that sparked it. There are people who go way too far in their execution of revenge, treading into 'cruel' territory when what they're fighting back against isn't even remotely bad enough to warrant such punishment. A man witnessed such revenge taking place and couldn't stand it, deciding to step in and intervene on his own accord.

Finding love, past and present, is obviously hard. We don't blame you for being frustrated with dating and wanting to stick with what's comfortable but if you're struggling to find and keep a quality partner click here to find out how to break the cycle.

Secrets are a funny thing. Even the tiniest of secrets can weigh extremely heavily upon our thoughts, leaving us feeling trapped within the realm of our own minds. Even the most trustworthy people can feel that itch to spill a secret, whether their own or someone else's if only to create a rush of adrenaline in their life.

Thankfully, the internet has done wonders in cases like this. It's easier than ever to adopt temporary anonymity, share whatever's on your mind, then race back out and pretend like it never happened.

One such place people can share their thoughts freely is the subreddit r/TrueOffMyChest.

It's a common practice to create a 'throwaway' account for these posts, a quickly made account with an untraceable username that's meant to post once then never again. Sometimes, the posts made here are teeming with such shock that it grows very popular, gaining thousands upon thousands of comments full of debate. Thus, one man's secret becomes another man's drama fix for the day, leaving us all grateful we don't have similar happenings in our own lives.

That's precisely what happened to one anonymous user when he made a throwaway account of his own to share something he did that hadn't left his mind.

A Strong Start

"My girlfriend refused to let her terminally [ill] ex see his dog so I took it to him," read the title of the post. It was an immensely popular post, gaining over 34k upvotes and 125 awards. It's an evocative title already, with the contents being just as emotional.

"My girlfriend kept the dog that her ex had after they broke up," the post begins, "It's originally his and he tried to get it back but she wouldn't let him. I heard he stopped trying to get it back after a while because he got sick."

The ex's illness only grew worse. As the author writes, "It's been months now. I heard that her ex was very sick and had sent his relative to try to tell my girlfriend to let him see the dog but she refused and threatened to call the cops on them."

Thankfully, he saw how awful this was of her, saying, "I found this so cruel of her especially since it's originally his dog so that was [unnecessarily] cruel and unsympathetic."

So, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

"Despite not being a huge fan of dogs. I put it in my car, contacted the guy (her ex) and went over to his mother's house to let him see the dog. He cried when he saw his dog and spent two hours with it before I tool it back. He was so appreciative though I only did this because of being human. I know if I was in his place I'd want someone to help me see my beloved pet when my ex keeps refusing for no reason other than to be bitter and petty."

"The guy passed away days ago. Thinking about it, I feel relieved that I did what I did although I can't tell anyone. She doesn't know that I drove the dog to her ex that day while she was at work."

This anonymous person's heart was so big, his soul so selfless, that he did all this without letting telling the person he knew would stop it. Clearly, it was weighing on him anyway as that's why he turned to confessing online, but thankfully, the comments were entirely in his corner.

Immense Empathy

They praised him for what he did, remarking how they couldn't imagine taking someone's dog away from them and how vile an act that was on the girlfriend's part, let alone not letting him see him even in the direst of circumstances.

The original author also stuck around to answer a few comments before vanishing completely.

One person commented, "You are a good person but your gf is not. I really hope you never get sick."

To which the author responded, "Yeah. I'm seriously re-evaluating the whole thing. I keep seeing a pattern and pettiness isn't something I tolerate in a partner."

Someone else said, "Unless your girlfriend had some major trauma with the ex, she seems like a very cruel person."

"Does it even matter?" The author asked, "If [it was] my ex who cheated on me twice, stole from me and ruined my reputation. I'd still drive the dog to her place no matter what. I get it! Relationships are complicated. But it's all about something simple and that is being a human."

There were many questions surrounding the girlfriend's motive, wondering if perhaps her ex was not kind to her while they were together, but the author explained that he was genuinely shocked and had never seen her behave like this before, saying, "I don't know what the hell is the matter with her or what possessed her to behave in such way."

There's only so much we can know about the people involved, and there's only so much the author can know if his girlfriend never explained why she's so protective over his dog.

So all we can do is take the story at face value and thank this person for the amazing, wonderful thing he did.

A dying man got to spend a few more hours with a dog that was taken from him, and someone performing a cruel act had their ultimate plans foiled by someone with a better conscience. The author himself really said it best when he wrote the, "But it's all about something simple and that is being a human," comment.

Seeing kindness as a core tenant of being human is the right way to go about living. Doing something nice for others isn't about moral superiority or proving a point, it's about being a person. Love and regard for others is innate in us all.
